Methinks Kenny and Motub are on to something. I never even considered the fact that the G400 might suck more juice than the G200, therefore causing increased heat. I guess it's a good thing I'm outta the tech support biz and into mainframes now.

X-Kenny-X...your scenario is much more plausible... I forgot about the voltage as well... but I still give myself lots and lots of lovely credit for recognizing the now-classic (to me) symptoms of overheating in the system for whatever cause... let's say I got us to the ballpark, and you found the good seats...!

            YAHOOO!!!! I'VE FIXED IT!!!!!!
Thanks for all the help (but not for the insults!)

It turned out that the SYSTEM BIOS (not the settings but the BIOS itself) was CORRUPT!

I had already reset the BIOS settings (removing the jumper) but it had made no difference, so I re-flashed the BIOS!

There was no obvious evidence of this corruption but after re-flashing exactly the same version of the BIOS I'm no longer getting any corruption with the G400!!

Nothing is more frustrating than doing everything right and still getting problems.

Glad you fixed it; now you can enjoy the damn card finally. What about your friend with the same problem?

Now he's getting REALLY p*ssed off now that I solved my problems but he hasn't.

in any event, the heat problem could still be an issue, i.e. corrupt bios?
