that power supply is way too small for a P-3 and a g400 in the same place! See if you can find a 300 watt to try, I know the g400 sucks up some serious power

DO NOT disable BusMastering, that is NOT a solution.

Now, run the Matrox uninstaller, boot into safe mode, go into Device Manager, and delete ALL video adapters reboot, when Windows prompts you to specify the location of the drivers for your Video Adapter, click cancel, then once your machine boots, run the 5.30 setup, reboot and you should be good to go.

        It' still not working :-(
I'm sure that I removed all the old drivers and all the old video adapters.

Is the solution really a new power supply ??

when I first went to the P-3 and g400 it was the only thing I had to do to get it working, in hardware mode is when it had problems, the old supply was 235, the new: 300
it'll allow for more fans when you start o/c'ing also

Well before you replace your Power Supply you may want to try your card in another system.

You could try one more thing. Remove the screw from the G400 bracket and take the card out. Reseat it firmly but don't put the screw back in. Connect your monitor cable, push the card in again just to be sure and boot up without the screw in the card's bracket.

I have a pIII 450 and G400 MAX. I have only a 230 watt supply. I added three fans to the system and case. All is well. Try the card in a different system. Also if your motherboard is old, try to see if there are any patchs you need for it..

I have a two 600watt dual redundant power supplies in a big mofo server case with 3 9Gb SCSI hard drives, a G400 DH 32Mb, Celeron466@581, ABit BX6 R2, 256Mb PC100 SDRAM, fans all over the place, SCSI int. zip, CDRW, Pextor UltraPlex SCSI CDROM, HP Colorado 4Gb Tape, 3Com 10/100 NIC, SBLive!, Adaptec 2940U2W PCI SCSI card, and every runs fine- never even thought about power problems- mwahahahaha! (only thing I complain about is going back and forth in the fall and spring from college- the thing weighs more than my volkswagon I think- plus my speakers, ugh!)

                    Hi JoEnKe,

Does your MAX have two wires or three wires for the Fan???

Also before you buy another power supply try the MAX in another system.

The 3-wire (metal bladed) fan may be the problem. On some mobos, that fan draws more current than the mobo can supply through the AGP slot. Matrox is now using a 2-wire (plastic bladed) fan, which draws less current.

Try unplugging the fan, directing some air at the heatsink to compensate, and see if the problem goes away.

Matrox should have no problem RMAing the card (or maybe they can send you a 2-wire fan) if this is the problem...

Well, that's almost right. The 3-wired fan is the (new) one with the plastic blades...
