  • SURVEY for ABIT/G400 Max problems

This is a survey for ABIT motherboard owners who have had problems with proper seating of their G400 Max cards.

What kind or brand Case are you using???

Mine is a SuperPower Landmark, mid-tower, 250W. The standoffs or risers to hold the motherboard are machine stamped on the motherboard tray.

I had a few problems with seating. Case is Gateway2000 Full Tower(late 1997). Quality bit of kit. Taking the motherboard (Abit BH6) right out and bolting it down properly fixed it

I have a BE6, a g400, and an In-Win midtower. A little stretching did take place here and there in order to get everything seated right.

But, I never really had any g400 problems, just interrupt and pci slot issues, but nothing major.

No name, ATX Midi Tower (curved, sliding front) No real probs apart from the mobo isn't supported perfectly in the centre (end of AGP slot towards the middle of the board) and so the board has to be supported when pushing an AGP card in. No AGP 2x probs. Abit BX6r2

Owned a G200 Mystique which I ran on my good ol' BH6, ripped it out and replaced it with a G400 vanilla and never had any problems with either of 'em. Sold the BH6 and G200 to my parents and bought a BE6 and was a happy camper :P That transition was easy too.
As for my case, Antec KS-188. Totally rocking, and only cost me $170 canadian (I've seen it cheaper, but i try and buy locally). Ars Technica reviewed it a while back.
Wither 2 _hot_ harddrives, my OC'd G400, OC'd P3, burner and DVD-ROM, my average case temp is 28 degrees, dipping as low as 26 and as high as 32 depending on how hot my room gets. This is a far cry from my old shitty generic case which hit 38 degrees celsius most days.
Only a standard OEM heatsink/fan on my P3 and 3 case fans, too :P

G400 MAX in a ABIT BX6-2 with no problems. Case is Supermicro SC750A full tower.

Second instance is a G400 MAX in a Dell XPS-R450. No problems with operation.

Actually, I did have trouble seating the card in both the cases, but I fought it until I was sure it was in correctly. I found it difficult to insert the tang into the case next to the MB

My case is an InWin Q500 tower. I had problems with the original Canadian G400 Max, but not the replacement Irish model.

InWin Q500. I had lockups with an Abit BH6 and an Asus P3B-F. My new Irish 3 wire cured me.
