    I keep typing here

With the PD5.25 drivers I don't have busmastering problems. None.

I blame Matrox for goofing something up with the 5.30 drivers, that's why busmastering doesn't work.

Well, even if it IS a problem with the chipset, Matrox should optimize there software first. That's where by far the most improvement in speed can be gained IMO

Oo-er, now I've opened a can of worms!

Isn't the busmastering problem well documented with Epox boards? I've seen a few people complaining about this and it seems to be a problem with PD5.30 and the G200, not the G400. Sounds like a Matrox problem to me.

As for SS7 boards not being stable, some are better than others and in my opinion Epox boards are among the better ones. You get what you pay for, as always.

BTW: I'm running PD5.3 and AGP x2 and my system is rock solid stable.

            Randy,

I'm not arguing which is BETTER. I'm simply saying that the design of the SS7 chipsets is inherently flawed. I don't know if it's because AMD didn't help them enough, or because Microsoft didn't help them enough, or because Intel is withholding information.

Whatever the reason, NO graphics card manufacturer can get it right. TNT/TNT2 _STILL_ don't work 100% on SS7 boards. Neither do ATI's. The only ones that do are Voodoo, and that's only because they don't really use AGP transfers anyway.

I sympathize with SS7 owners, really I do. But let's face it, the drivers just aren't up to snuff. I run a couple of these boards (EPOX boards) in NT machines at work with Joe Generic video cards, and they run fine. Stable, nary a reboot in weeks.

But under Win9x, with fast video cards, they're just unstable. Your mileage will vary. Some folks make them work perfectly. Some folks have to ditch their boards to get their video to run at all. You are probably in between.

I think if we gave the Matrox driver writers an infinte supply of coffee and had them drink it infinitely fast, they could generate an infinite supply of updated drivers, in zero time. :-)

Months? We have to wait months for DX7 optmized drivers? Say it ain't so!

Ah nuts. Oh well, by then the V4 will be out... just 5 little months to gaming nirvana! Assuming, of course, that Y2K goes without incident, Matrox doesn't pull a white rabbit out of a hat, and 3dfx doesn't get overrun with management that sucks. :-)

                  Hey Randy,

how come that you don't have beta 6 when you compare it to the public release ???

If you'd really know what you're talking about you'd had 'em in your system. If you don't have'em, you cannot judge 'em ...

And don't really expect some of us violating our NDAs, do you ?
