  • G200/driver5.25/Gigabyte mobo

    Hi,

I just recently got hold of a Gigabyte GA-6VXE+ VIA Apollo chipset mobo to test with my G200/8MB and when running with driver version 5.25 under Win98SE it will report a VxD VMM error during either system restart or while booting into Windows. At times it will go the desktop and then freeze completely.

I have reverted back to driver version 4.51 and it is very stable now (and that's how I am able to write this !). I would like to know if anyone has encountered this problem before and if there's any solution to it.

Also, I've noticed my sound card is having the same IRQ11 as my G200. Could this be a problem and how should I change my sound card's IRQ ?

    Appreciate any advise.

    My system config is :

    Gigabyte GA-6VXE+,128MBPC100,G2008MB,A3Dsoundcard,
    FastSCSIcard,ADSLcard,Windows98SE

Oh...I forgot to mention that my mobo is running on a PII350Mhz CPU (no o/c).

That very well could be your problem. You should *absolutely* get your soundcard off IRQ 11.

If your problems persist, come back, but your G400 should not be sharing with anything but IRQ Holder for PCI Steering.

You might be having some motherboard driver issues as well. The VIA guys on the forum can help you with that.

        hi paulcs,

thanks for your reply. btw, i'm running a G200 and not the G400. with the current version 4.51 driver i'm running, the system is perfectly ok although it still reports that my soundcard and G200 are using IRQ11.

if i want to get my soundcard off IRQ11, what is the best approach as i'm not allowed to change it via device manager and the soundcard doesn't have any jumper to change the IRQ#. does putting it in a different slot help to change the IRQ# assignment ?

          Hi Chrispy

Yes, you should move the sound card to a different slot. The AGP slot usually shares an IRQ with the closest PCI slot. If that doesn't fix it try the latest VIA drivers from http://www.via.com.tw/drivers/4in1414.exe

          Good Luck.
