Win2K gaming.

I'm probably gonna get roasted for this one (come to think of it, I roasted someone else for whining about Win2K drivers), but here goes: is there ANY way at all to get any kind of acceleration through Win2K build 2151? Just installed it, and it looks sweet, but I'm game-horny. Any tips / tricks / hack methods to do it or am I wasting time trying?

AFAIK there aren't any leaked files on betaos or any other place - so I guess you'll have to wait.

The most frustrating bit is having a OS with a working ICD (ie Win2K and a G200 ICD) which refuses to work with GL games like quake.

I've been informed by a beta boy that this is to be expected at this stage of development. Frustrates the hell out of me that's for sure.

I've already tried OpenGL with the NT4 drivers. The ICD is loaded for for the screen savers (I attached a debugger to make sure) and appears to work OK, however OpenGL games fail to initialise correctly.

That's one step closer than I got; build 2151 won't let me install the NT 4 drivers. Is there any way to kill the OS version detection that goes on and force NT 4 drivers down its throat?

Do the forced NT4 drivers at least give dual
displays!?

Hi Rock,

I only have RC2. Did you use the advance properties under display adapter to change the driver? That should work, if not then it is just a matter of changing the inf file a little, but I'm not sure what your build is looking for.

I just tried running the setup. Going through the device manager and pointing build 2151 to the folder where I had the NT4 drivers did nothing. It could'nt find em in there. Weird no?

Still alpha? And we supposedly have around 1 month until RTM. I thought Matrox would be well and truely beta by now, with release candidates on the way.

Maybe they are trying to water down any expectation of having a stable and fully functional driver, like they did the ICD.

1 month to get from alpha to omega, I think they have left their run a little late. What is the date on the drivers you have?

Hmmm... I don't think it would be fair to fault Matrox if they don't have Win2K drivers ready to go by RTM (December...) But if they're not ready for the official Win2K release (Feb 17th), then they'll deserve to have their ass chewed out (hmmm, that phrase looks disgusting written out- it's American locker room talk for being yelled at...)

The problem here is that since RC2 (a couple of builds ago) M$ has forced DX7 compatibility. If your drivers don't support DX7, they don't work. So you can't even, last I checked, run the beta Win2k drivers without some tweaking in build 2151. The ones I'm using now are the Alpha4 DX7 drivers (stable, but incomplete) available to developers and beta testers.

(No, I'm not bragging and no, I won't give them to you...)
