I've tried with bus mastering enabled and disabled, there wasn't any difference. It's enabled right now. I have DirectX 7 and Powerdesk 5.30.007. I tried a few other versions of Powerdesk as well, I don't remember which ones though.

Heh ? impossible bus mastering do's a big difference. I dont no but maybe that bus mastering is disable wether you chouse enable or disable. Windows problem maybe

I have the G400 Tweak installed (from: http://home.thezone.net/~bm/myfiles.html) so if anyone has any suggestion as to what I should have checked and not checked I'll make the changes and re-benchmark.

before that you install it, what was the benchmark difference ? Try to desinstall it and run the bench again.

Yeah, I've benched it with Bus Mastering enabled and disabled, it's about the same. I used the Matrox Uninstall utility and I've tried two or three different versions of the Powerdesk.

I'll close everything down and re-benchmark first with Bus Mastering disabled and then with it enabled and I'll post the results when it's finished.

Death, I think it is time to summon Haig, because something is wrong. You should be doing a lot better, and maybe he has some insights. I recommend starting a new thread with Haig's name in the subject line. Tell him what you have tried, and what your results are. Be very clear about your specs and your IRQ situation. He might want you to list them.

Avoid DirectX7! It is not ready for prime time yet. All kinds of gremlins will creep into your system and give you headaches. DX6.1 is still the way to go. I am not sure if DX7 is what is causing your performance hit, though. Unfortunately, there is not a clean way of uninstalling DX7 short of reformatting and reinstalling Win9X. And if you just changed video cards, you might be overdue for a fresh reinstall.

I dunno what is causing your performance hit, though.

Hi Death,

Isn't your motherboard based on the VIA Apollo Pro chipset? Make sure that you have the latest drivers for your chipset. These are necessary to have busmastering capability, and could explain much of your performance problems.

I've been thinking that formatting the HD and reinstalling Win98 SE might fix things. I didn't reinstall Win98 when I put in the new motherboard and video card, so something must have gotten messed up. I'll give that a try now and then I'll come back here and post the new bench marks (before and after upgrading powerdesk) and if that isn't any better I'll see if I can get Haigs attention.
