For the graphics card of the Year: Matrox G400 Max, you should use the Monitor of the Year: Sony F400 (They where select as the graphic products of the Year by PCMagazine).

Go to stores and see for yourself.

Dyre, the "Lines" only show on White or very Light screens, i.e. not very often. AND if you use it for a few hours, the lines become invisible. And aside from that, most of the highest rated monitors out there use Trinitron CRT's.

Trinitron monitors never look sharp to me. Recently, I replaced my 17" ViewSonic with a Hitachi SuperScan 751, and I love it.

The 751 is an older model, but with .22 dot pitch and good refresh rates, it was an excellent buy for $420.

As near as I can tell, the only difference between the 751 and the new models are higher refresh rates. Above about 85hz, I can't tell the difference, so I saw no point in spending the extra money.

i Relize its just on white and im REALLY being picky, but the only reason i get a G400 was dual head, for my work. If the monitors im using only look good for games (ie no white) why would i buy a (awesome!)video card only to find out when i try to work on my system i get annoying lines across my monitors! Now if you can live with these, and dont use white alot, GET A TRINITRON TUBE! they are bueitiful! Crisp and clear. I just personally cant stand them.

What I'm staring at now is my Iiyama Vision Master Pro400, 17" screen, and I sure don't want to look at another monitor brand ever again !!

Btw, anyone noticed that the mousepointer moves over the Apperture grill-lines?? Although the rest of the 2D screen sits under them??

On the cheaper end of the market has anyone heard of or seen 'Smile' monitors. They appear to have excelent resolution/refresh capabilities for the price.

The 17" FST 0.26 costs £176 (GB Pounds)INC VAT and supports

                640x480@60/72/75/85/120/150Hz,
                800x600@56/60/72/75/85/100/120Hz,
                1024x768@60/70/72/75/85/100Hz,
                1280x1024@60/75Hz,
                1600x1200@60/65 Hz,

Ok, 1600x1200 refresh is a little low, but I wouldn't run a 17 at that res.

I picked up somewhere that they're based on NEC CRT's but I'm not sure. Have a look

Go back a page and there are 'short tube' versions too.
