  • G400 crashes in games

    Hi,

I've recently built my own system, and
am experiencing crashes when trying to
run Unreal Tournament or the G400 tech
demo (these are the only two apps I've
installed which are using 3d hardware
acceleration, so I'm guessing that this
    is a G400 related problem).

    Basically, Unreal usually crashes after
playing through a single level, or sometimes
refuses to load and goes back to the desktop
    screen - I get a horrible C++ stylee error
    message.

The G400 tech demo usually doesn't load,
and on the occasssions when it does
load, it crashes when I try any of the
    function key options.

My system spec. is as follows :

    PIII@450Mhz
    128Mb PC100 SDRAM
    Matrox G400 (dual head, 32Mb) - I think
it's currently set at IRQ 11.
    Superpower XV-133 motherboard (VIA
    Apollo chipset)
    Creative SoundBlaster32
    Windows 98
    Mitsubishi Pro 900U
    Pioneer DVD ROM

Any help with this problem would be greatly
    appreciated.
    Cheers,

    Adam.

Presuming you've got the plain vanilla windoze 98 (Not SE) you'll probably need to get the latest 4:1 drivers from Via.
I don't use Via anymore (Orrible chipset and drivers) but anyone round here that does will know which drivers you need if I'm wrong.

When I get errors like that, I open up the case and vent the whole system. UT is extrememy hard on the processor (as Unreal was). If anything is out of whack, the engine WILL crash. Overheating will really get you here.

My Athlon was upchucking on UT - completely bombing out. I removed the side plate and stuck a 20" box fan in front of it. That fixed the problem. :-)

        Just my $0.02
