Maybe your G400 is sharing an IRQ ...

Post a complete listing of your IRQ assignments.

I can't acces my PC right now. (I'm at work..)
But I thought I already checked on that. But shouldn't this cause a serious slow down of the entire system?
I've got a strange feeling it has something to do with either the DVD 6x or the ISA Isdn card !?

Maggi, how does yours run fluid, when every 6'th frame is dropped because of the conversion??

You definately have something very wrong in your system if you can not get proper playback with Matrox player, and also if the other sw players have even worse stutters.

You say that otherwise your performance is OK. Could you e.g. give a 3dmark2000 score as a reference?

I hope you won't get offended by this, but... you say you have eliminated all background tasks, so you could perhaps tell us what you see when pressing the ctrl-alt-del...

I suppose you have enabled the SPDIF output for your 5.1 system, is there any difference if you use analog sound output from the SB Live?

The ISDN card could be the problem, if it is doing something while you are watching a movie. It takes a long time for an ISA card to handle interrupts.

are you using DVDMAX? to output to TV when running DVD's? is the playback jerky on BOTH screen and TV if you are?

if so...have you tried the DVD Genie to change deinterlace settings for cinemaster?

I have also experienced problems with dvd-playback, but format c: and a new install of w98 worked miracles, it runs 100% smooth and the image is perfect - my advice (unfortunately) reinstall win98.

Your system should easily handle it. Mine worked when I had a K6-2/450. I would reinstall windows it does fix a lot of strange problems. If that doesn't help you might look at the motherboard. My girlfriend's computer runs 25% slower than mine with the same processor.

I upgraded and still DVD jerks !!

                    I had some problems with dvd playback. I sometimes jerked. Then I had a G400 MAX PII-450@504 128mb with a creative 6x IDE DVD-ROM.
I could only use Cinemaster for the less worst playback. The other players where like watching a movie with the stroboscoop on.
So I upgraded the processor and the memory. I now have a PIII-600 and 256 mb (pc100).
The DVD playback is better BUT STILL NOT PERFECT. When I'm using cinemaster, that is... Other programs like PowerDVD and WinDVD don't perform at all.
I can't imagine that my specs are too low now, to watch a movie without shocks.
Could anybody tell me what my problem could be?
Could it, perhaps, be the 6x IDE DVD?
Is there a way to test if it is?
                    PLEASE HELP, I'M GOING NUTZZZZZZZZ!!!!

                        Thnx guys for the tips.
I wasn't able to try it, I'm sorry.
This evening when I get home, I'll reinstall Win98.

About the spdif out. Does this slow the computer down ?
Is it really that important what operates in the background, with 256 mb RAM?
And, what deinterlace option should I pick? (With the cinemaster).

using soft-deinterlace does look good... but in some scenes the picture flashes in a strange way... so i prefer using Overlay(riva128/matrox)... and bottom of overlay for the flip position, this seems to make the NTSC>>PAL conversion to a PAL TV almost not noticable, also soft deinterlace gives the same almost perfect conversion.

using the standard settings for Matrox DVD (Flip(Trident/neomagic)) is the only way for me to make PAL dvd's to PAL Tv run fluidly, dunno why... but it's the only setting that works good for the Tvout.

None of these settings seem to make any difference on the monitor, except that softdeinterlace looks alittle better than the others.

I have one DVD that strobes on the monitor but looks fine on the TV. All my other DVD's are fine with the same settings. What is the cause of this?
