    Update on faster memory :

QDR or Quad Data Rate Memory. That's right folks, 2X the bandwidth of DDR. Recently, a consortium of memory manufacturers including Micron, Cypress and IDT, standardized on a design of this technology in an SRAM structure and brought it to the "tape-out" stage just last month

And to think this thread was supposed to be a place for news on the latest roumers, within the forums (Not trying to do Ant's job). Now look what we are talking about, memory types, etc.

The old G400 will go to others that cannot yet afford the G800.

        MarkF,

QDR sounds interesting, I think the architecture of the PC is going towards edge triggered clocks across the board so DDR and varients make sense. I want PCI converted over to edge triggering at 66MHz/64bit. I would rather QDR than the Intel approach of fewer lines more MHz. More MHz means more technical problems, more expensive components, (capacitance is a bitch). You know you are going to be screwed when Intel suggests a new technology.

Rumour has it, that the new Matrox offering will also include a FPU (Food Processing Unit). This nice inclusion will be able to brew your beer or make your coffee, whatever, while you´re killing time and adversaries in Quake 7.

You guys are driving nucking futs !!!

What about that PRU (Predictive Rendering Unit) that knows your next move and draws the according screenbuffers in advance ?

I think that'll be in there, in the hardware; and it'll say so on the box, but the initial drivers will ship without implamenting it (?it'll be disabled in the drivers, maybe thats a better way to put it?). The proper drivers will be released soon after (ie. arrive just in time for the next Gen cards to take advantage of it).

There are also some features (can't remember what they are right now, any of you creatively imaginative types, err... technically proficent types, wanna come up, err... out with them?) that the core will be technicaly able to do but won't be implamented (because it can't be done effectively, that you won't hear about untill it's available in other cards, and garnering big headline.

                Yeah, yeah, that's the ticket!!

PS -You'll see when the cards do come out people will come into the forums and ask about all these features and why they aren't in the final silicone. And how to turn them on.

                      QDR huh??

The G650 might have the DDR RAM, the G800 will go for either QDR or ODR RAM... (Octo Datarate RAM)

I think the latter in an AGP Pro 4X option as well. Would work only on mobo's sporting PC-266Mhz SXDRAM

If they don't go with at least 6 dodeca-texal rendering units, on one 0.007µ fab chip with 64 MB of QDR RAM on die, I won't be willing to part with the "scratch" to get it. After all I really value my left testicle, it is the larger of the two.
