    Tylau,

Empty vases make louder noise and I think you are. By following the thread from the past you had posted, you had constributed nothing at all. So stop using BASTARD against anyone. If you need to use that word, look yourself in the mirror. Taht answer all your question.

Hay, I'm ready, lets all head over to GForce 256. Maybe we can get together for a group discount? Designer

          Paul,

Yes, I was referring to your comment about them being unresponsive. I disagreed with that, and gave reasons for disagreeing.
BTW, which quake do you have problems with, and is it the only OpenGL game/app that you use?

          Ant,

I wasn't attacking anyone, I was challenging what they were saying. If he were to have chimed in and just said, well NT4 users are stuck with sub-par drivers for games, or something, I would have agreed. But he didn't. He was saying that Matrox never listens to us, and I happen to disagree with that.

          LAMFDTK,

I was being sarcastic in that post.

Although I haven't always agreed with Paul, I think his critisms of Matrox's NT support have been entirely valid, and the steady drone of W2K criticism to be tactical as opposed to plain old venting. I think Matrox is relatively responsive these days, and responsible criticism does not fall on deaf ears.

If these forums are anything close to a representative sample, it looks like a lot of Matrox users are migrating to W2K, and I suspect the support will be better than it was for NT 4.

I certainly hope so. Now that nVidia, 3dfx, and even The Great Satan, ATI, have released drivers, I find myself running out of ammo.

I doubt we will ever see a great NT 4 driver from them, however. It's been a long time, and I suspect W2K will be more of a priority.

It was a fun thread though. Certainly brought Ant back to life!

paulcs, yep I live in hope that Matrox will see some of my posts. I also post quite a bit in some of the MSDN forums (about MS not Matrox), and that really does seem to make a difference. A reasonably popular thread tends to produce an announcement from MS in a few days. There is a much bigger time lag with Matrox, so it is harder to know if there is a connection. Also Matrox have never responded to my emails about beta driver bugs / requests etc; not that they're obliged to, but since the bugs were not fixed it may have been worth them following up. Also, when I referred to NT, I was including w2k - it is too late to be embarking on a major revamp of the NT 4 drivers.

tylau, 3d studio max is the only opengl app I use, but I own to being a Quake addict. Most of the problems I have are probably related to running MPS hardware, and most I can replicate. These errors usually result in a black screen, not even a BSOD, and nothing to do except reboot, It reminds me of Windows 95! I also get 2D corruptions doing things that worked perfectly under NT 4, like remote debugging a vmware session. There are some dd bugs in terminal sessions and netmeeting (some icons and bitmaps are rendered entirely black). EasyCD Creator still randomly causes BSOD's, most likely a G400 problem.

Hey, if Matrox listen and do post a final driver in the next couple of days (as per their press release), I'll come back to this thread and eat humble pie. But once it starts getting close to the release of a new card, you can forget about significant and timely advances in the G400 drivers.

              Paul

I'll bet you that Matrox will release win2k official drivers before Tuesday next week.

If they do, then Paul has to start a new thread telling everyone how much he loves matrox marketing. I'll also send you some possum pie for you

                  paulcs,

I certainly hope so, crossing my fingers for Matrox better support for W2K as I have moved to W2K from NT4 since yesterday.

                    hmmm about NT drivers....

I am a NT user for over a year now, before I install NT, Matrox was never under my consideration since they have very poor NT drivers. I brought a Nvidia card since they have the best NT drivers among 3dfx, matrox, ati and Nvidia

After switching to W2K, I chose the G400 for matrox has the best W2K beta driver and I needed a video card upgrade for W2K, since Nvidia beta W2K driver doesn't work right until last week.

I am hoping Matrox will keep up the good work as its beta W2K driver and release a bug free W2K final driver in the near future.

Good luck to all W2K and G200/400 user.

Ah, could everyone lend me an ear?

WINDOWS 2000 INCLUDES G400 MICROSOFT CERTIFIED DRIVERS ON THE FINAL W2K Pro CD!!!!
I know, I installed it the same day I saw the release in San Fran.

Too bad I couldn't get Bill Gates, Patrick Stewart and Santana to sign my CD...

                          Thanks Matrox!

Damned naysayers, buy a GeFarce and quit whining. I'll keep my MAX.

Funny, I thought that the drivers on the CD did not include ogl support. That and the DX is broken.....

Just as a final semi-serious reference....

I have been a NT user since NT 3.5

I have used SMP amchines for 3D animation using lightwave 3D since then too. I have always had a Matrox card in my workstations. Honestly? the last card from Matrox with NT drivers worth a damn? Millenium II. I actually still use my 2 8MB Mill2's in my office machines as they are the only ones that have any sort of stability. Sure I have a G400 in my game machine, but admnitidly, it runs win98. And I even have my old spare G400 lying around here. Why dont I take it to work and get 2 monitor goodness? cause I dont want to be rebooting every 2 hours cause Matrox doesnt give a flying leap about me. And I know this to be true as I have sent in MANY times different bugs with the G400 drivers and have yet to even get a response.

So yeah, I think my G400 kicks ass. Wouldnt wanna use anything else for my game computer. But I will not in any way praise or defend Matrox's NT attitude. Sure their win9x develpomenet seems to be coming along, but that would be expected I guess.

BTW, to those that recall me bitching at otehr epople to wait for final win2k to come out ebfore bithing about the drivers? go right ahead now
A computer is like sex. Your never 100% sure what your doing but when all goes well, it feels REAL good.

Well, if you look at where most every other company is with Win2k drivers, if Matrox releases MS WHQL certified drivers this week they are way ahead of everyone. My friend can't even get his much newer ATI Rage Fury to load Quake 3, much less play it, while my G200 runs is with only one flaw (hardware gamma). 3DFX hasn't even released any drivers for their Voodoo2 cards (about as old as my G200). What about Creative Labs and their wonderful Live! series of sound cards? No real drivers till March...

Anybody see where I'm going here...

For those of you new to the "Let's bitch out Matrox cause their drivers suck" camp, I'm glad to pass the torch along. My efforts for NT were in vain, but my experience in 2000 tells me they have already begun to pay off. One last plead: SMP support?
