Well on my system, most likely the same as all of you, IRQ 2 is a system reserved IRQ for the programmable interrupt controller... and it sends anything that's on IRQ 2 to IRQ 9.

All my systems have done that, I thought it was standard behavior.

Would Win2K change that behavior for some reason?

But it's starting to look like an APM/ACPI issue to me...

What are the PM settings in your BIOS, AdB?

The last thing you said about it was
It was something to do with powermanagement in the BIOS. I turned everthing off, and hey presto it works fine.
If you turned everything off, why is Windows still detecting it and assigning it an IRQ????

Either everything is not off, or your install is bad somehow, giving you a ghost device.

Do you have a PM Control Panel app appearing?

Can you use it, or does Windows crash when you click it (that's what happens to me when I have a ghost Control Panel app...)

        Ad B:

        NO MORE ONE LINERS!

You either enjoy jerking us all off, (which will end very soon,) or you don't know how to read.

        NOW!

A reply of at least 50 words or more will occur on your next post, or you are on your own.

        1. Are you able to play your silly Q3 for as long as you want, and only when exiting do you experience your black screen? or does the game bomb out in the midst of play? If so when, and after how long???

        2. Did this problem exhibit itself in the same way when you were running W98?

        3. Did this problem exist on your old mobo (assuming, since we haven't known that you have just recently replaced your mobo?)

        4. Were you O/Cing your proc. on your old mobo?

        5. Did you just install the G400max??? Along with the new mobo???

Too many variables, and too little information. Details, or no help.

(Many other questions, but I don't know where to start.)

Everone who has ever received a brand new MoBo that did not have the newest BIOS installed, raise your hand.

How about you tell us what BIOS is installed? You very well may have the newest but telling is just that you have the newest sujests you want us to go to your MoBo menufacturers site look up the info and make an assumption that is what you have. Not very productive.
I am not well versed in SS7 boards, and my knowledge of their problems is limited to the more commonly heard problems and solutions. So I may not be the biggest of help with you problems. I have however noticed you seem to be inconsistent with the little info you have given us. Also you are suposidly running quite a few BETAs, you system sound pretty stable if that is true.

Hey how do you generate a pastable list of the IRQs from Device Manager?
Have a look here if abyone wants to give me a hand:

That's about what I wanted to say, Mark. Having a new mobo doesn't guarantee that you have the latest bios. If you don't know, Ad B, I've gone to your manufacterers site already and gave you the link to their newest BIOS there. Wouldn't hurt to reflash it, does it?

I've had a few more PC problems and have been unable to boot, d'oh! But I'm back now.

Well, here are the answers to some of your rather polite questions:

The PM settings are all off, everything is off. Except the monitor settings which are set on suspend, and DPMS support.

The mobo's BIOS IS! the latest.

The blank screen occurs when exiting the game, just before returning to the desktop.Plus, the screen goes blank after running a demo or game. I can load the game and then quit it fine.

I bought the new mobo, the same time as the MAX. So I've never used the MAX with the old board(The BIOS is kaput).

Win '98 worked with Quake 3 fine, but had other problems which I couldn't live with.

ACPI works fine whatever settings I change in the BIOS.

About the IRQ's umm, I right click on the list of IRQ's in the System Information Plug-In, and save it as a text file.

Okay Ad B, I only pushed this thread back to the top of the forum, for you to be able to check what you wrote inbetween.

A couple of guys have been pissed off by your answers already (including me, but I'm still trying...)

What if you started a thread called "I don't know what is wrong (Haig)", then we all come running again.

In that thread you tell us in detail what's wrong, what you've done before to changed things that were wrong, what you've bought new, what latest drivers you've installed, the IRQ listing again, and anything you have had problems with.

I didn't ask you to just check your BIOS, I asked you to reflash it as well... Why are you so stubborn?? Do you think that the factory couldn't have made a mistake in flashing the mobo's BIOS?

But okay, don't answer here anymore. Start a new thread and we'll come running again !!

                Jorden.
