    No, they screwed us again.

edit: MAYBE, unless you're lucky, but they sure are screwing me. I've kept my cool for a long time with the G200 issues and all, but I seriously need some prozac or something right now.

      GOD DAMN IT!

I'm getting pretty tired spending most of my weekends trying to get my hardware to work.
I long for the good old days with the Amiga when the worst hardware trouble you had was whether you could afford a memory expansion or not.

I think it is a SS7 / G200 problem again. Using the Via AGP 4.0 driver or the 3.59, i get a fatal exception in DirectX or OGL with the 5.52 drivers. Need to start reporting it to Matrox so they'll know. As if they don't already, I can't imagine that they don't have a MVP3 board with a G200 as one of their test systems, considering the number of driver problems there has been with that set-up. But, hey, even if 5.41 ends up being the last one I can use, I'm cool with that, it works well for me.

            Working fine here:
            k6-3 400@450
            Epox mvp3g2
            128meg pc100
            g400-16meg
Seems to be working with g400's ok.
g200's they'll probably have straightened out next time.
            Hang in there!

              Same problem as anid!!

Matrox do you test g200 drivers with MVP3 chipset?
              I'm not happy at all!!!

All these problems are related to your motherboards. no wonder why there are patches to install and procedures on how to install windows from VIA. Why would it be Matrox that screws you guys over when the only problems are with those motherobards? I ran several SS7 /Athlon/ PII and PIII mobos with no problems. You should all know by now that these are not the most stables mobos and a change would be needed if you want to cure all those problems... Sorry but I just hate SS7 boards. You want to know if it works, then format, enable USB, only have the video card in, install windows, put the patches, then your display drivers and see if it works.

                    I spoke too soon!
Encountered problems when attempting to shut down or restart(bsod).
                    Discovered the following:
                    Via's new agp driver(v400) doesn't support ss7,it's designed for 133 chipset.It's uninstall routine doesn't work.
                    Cure was as follows:
Uninstalled Via's drive by using the previous version(ran it 2 times to make sure)
uninstalled matrox 5.52(2-3 times to make sure)
                    Reinstalled via's previous agp driver,reinstalled matrox 5.52.
Turbo gl doesn't want to work, but no major loss at this juncture,5.52 runs well with improved speed and image quality.
The interesting point with via's 400 agp is that turbo gl did work, although a great bit of tearing was evident.
I suspect Via may be at fault here,if time allows I'll test my g200 with it and will get back.
Xtian, bios may not be the problem here,
in my bios,I have agp memory set to 128(doesn't go any higher)have disabled references to writing, etc.(which may not be neccessary to do)and otherwise have set it up pretty straight forward)
I would try to get 5.52 working following the guidelines above and you'll see why turbo gl may not be neccessary.
(using 1024x768 in games, speed is good, image quality is excellent)

ALFIE, which version of the AGP-Driver do you use now with 5.52/via-mvp3/g200-system?

                          v.3.59 or v.3.3(which comes with the 4-in-1 v.4.20)

                          thanks

Zwisch, just FYI I don't have SS7, I have Apollo Pro 133. Yes, I agree SS7 can suck, and it really sucks if you're talking about a mobo manufacturer that sucks (FIC).

Why are they screwing us? I don't know! Maybe they're helping Intel design its next integrated video chipset? My G200 is PCI not AGP, there should be no issues between Via and Intel in this respect and that's why I'm a pist off customer. I'm glad to hear that they may have fixed Via + G400s this time, but Via + G200 is not uncommon at all (well I suppose it is these days, most people threw out their G200's for a different card so they could have something called OpenGL). Matrox should do some testing on a wider range of hardware before they release their drivers, I don't think the elite betaboys are cutting it, and maybe Matrox thinks so too. The recent public betas are a good start, and I'm glad they seem to be wising up. But I'd feel a lot better right now if the matrox page said 5.52.015 BETA

now... where's that bottle of everclear
