    Phillip,
His motherboard does the slot sharing in reverse order. The first two PCI slots share with each other and the USB, the last slot shares with the AGP.
EDIT: The P3BF uses the standard sharing arrangement of the BX chipset, I thought it was one of those boards that flipped the arrangement upside down, but that isn't the case

    The Eych,
Move your NIC down one slot, and boot into windows to verify that it grabbed IRQ9, if it did not, go into your bios and force it to IRQ 9. Post back with results.

      Sorry, i made a mistake.

      The REAL cards order is:

      AGP - Matrox G400
      PCI - not in use
      PCI - not in use
      PCI - Ethernet card
      PCI - SB Live!
      ISA - not in use

        Rags,

        What is NIC?

          Hi The Eych,

          Network Interface Card.

The advice I gave you still stands, move your NIC one slot up (or down, depending on how you are looking at it), and follow what I posted, and let me know if this helps.

I have moved my NIC card two slots down (up).

Now the cards are installed in the following order:

            AGP - Matrox G400
            PCI - not in use
            PCI - Ethernet card
            PCI - not in use
            PCI - not in use
            PCI - SB Live!
            PCI - not in use
            ISA - not in use

            My current irqs list:

            00 System Timer
01 Standart 101/102-Key or Microsoft Natural Keyboard
            02 Programmable Interrupt Controller
            03 Communication Port (COM2)
            04 Communication Port (COM1)
            05 Creative SB Live! Value
05 Intel 82371AB/EB PCI to USB Universal Host Controller
05 IRQ Holder for PCI Steering
            06 Standart Floppy Disk Controller
            07 ECP Printer Port (LPT1)
            08 System CMOS/real time clock
            09 Creative SB16 Emulation
10 PCI Plug & Play Ethernet Card
10 IRQ Holder for PCI Steering
            11 Matrox Millennium G400 - English
11 IRQ Holder for PCI Steering
            12 WheelMouse2 (PS/2)
            13 Numeric Data Processor
14 Intel 82371AB/EB PCI Bus Master IDE Controller
14 Primary IDE Controller (dual fifo)
15 Intel 82371AB/EB PCI Bus Master IDE Controller
15 Secondary IDE Controller (dual fifo)

So my NIC is still on IRQ 10, but SB has moved. After achieving such results I swiched on bus mastering and reloaded my system.

Everything seems to work fine since then. No garbage.

              Hi The Eych,

You should try to get your SB Live! Off of IRQ 5, try setting that (IRQ 5) reserve for Legacy/ISA and see if SB Live takes IRQ9 and SB16 emulation takes 5, then you will have your IRQ's set properly.

                Rags,

I can assign irqs to slots directly in my board. So i assign irq 9 to sb live!. Now irs are as follows:

                00 System Timer
01 Standart 101/102-Key or Microsoft Natural Keyboard
                02 Programmable Interrupt Controller
                03 Communication Port (COM2)
                04 Communication Port (COM1)
                05 Creative SB16 Emulation
                06 Standart Floppy Disk Controller
                07 ECP Printer Port (LPT1)
                08 System CMOS/real time clock
                09 Creative SB Live! Value
09 Intel 82371AB/EB PCI to USB Universal Host COntroller
09 IRQ Holder for PCI Steering
10 PCI Plug & Play Ethernet Card
10 IRQ Holder for PCI Steering
                11 Matrox Millennium G400 - English
11 IRQ Holder for PCI Steering
                12 WheelMouse2 (PS/2)
                13 Numeric Data Processor
14 Intel 82371AB/EB PCI Bus Master IDE Controller
14 Primary IDE Controller (dual fifo)
15 Intel 82371AB/EB PCI Bus Master IDE Controller

Disable a COM port, and/or the USB as well.

I also have a problem similar to that discussed in this thread. I have a G400Max and a Asus K7M motherboard. If I enable bus mastering I got garbage on screen and crashes in few minutes of use. After reading this thread I removed my SB Live, SCSI card and also disabled USB port to avoid every possible IRQ conflict, but bus mastering still doesn't work. Could this be a power supply problem? I have a 250W power supply.
I don't have Windows 98 SE but I have installed all the latest BIOS and drivers and miniports for the motherboard and the video card.
What is really strange is that I once got the system working for two hours with bus mastering by downclocking bus to 90 Mhz, but this worked only once...

Yes, your power supply could be the problem.

Before you go out and buy a new one, force AGP 2x using the registry hacks on MURC.

If that doesn't work, you might consider upgrading your OS.

Say Matt, why does that Intel 82371AB/EB PCI to USB Universal Host COntroller move with the SB Live ??

                        Intregueing huh?

                          Hi The Eych,

That looks perfect to me, you shouldn't have any problems with what you have set there.

                          Jorden,

The reason the USB moves with the SBLive! is because the SB Live! is installed in a slot that will always share the IRQ with the USB. If you notice, there is not a PCI Steering installed on that IRQ to correspond with the USB, either The Eych doesn't have USB enabled in his bios, or he doesn't have any USB devices installed, so the USB won't affect the SB Live! at all, nothing to worry about.

Guys, please stop waisting your time, this is stupid. Remove all freaking cards from teh system except for your G400 and see if the problem persist. If so, then we will start looking at the cards configuration... If it still does not work, then we know that the problem is elsewhere or that the card is defective, then you would simply need to try it in another system.

As you can see, his problem is already solved from what we have done, I was just making further suggestions on getting the IRQ's in their best places, in my opinion anyhow

                                Rags,

The system is really working fine now.

                                Great thanks!

I have one USB device - it is my logitech mouse. But when i originally tried to install it on USB port it had problems with identification or something (don't remember already). And now I use USB to PS/2 adapter.

I guess now this was also an IRQ conflict problem?
