I was unaware that I died and left Jorden in charge of the MHW forum.

As far as I am concerned, as long as it is kept civil, and there is legitimate comparisons going on with Matrox products, those of you with Nvidia based cards are more than welcome to post here with your experiences (and we'll pray for those of you who have strayed from the path of M).

Of course if it's just flame bait (which I don't feel these posts where, outside of Jorden's), it will dissappear

So don't listen to Jord. As long as you are comparing the features/speed/appearance of your new cards against Matrox Hardware, and doing it in a freindly way, it's fine.

      Interesting, Octoman ...

but, if you knew it, why did you pose the question ?

If I had known that Asus had such a feature on their GeForce Deluxe DDR, I would have frankly posted that.

Besides that don't ever try again to advice me ... it could fire back at you ...

[... insert 10minutes of browsing Asus' webpages ...]

      Hey Octo,

I can't find the feature you describe on their pages ... you were talking about the V6800 Deluxe, right ?
Can' find it in the manual, neither in the feature list, nor in the datasheet ...

Could you provide me a link to a description of that feature ?

      Cheers,
      Maggi

        here my screenshot:

Maybe it isn't a driver problem, and that tower I took a screenshot of is just in desperate need of renovation?

          Hi DZeus,

this is a known Zbuffer problem and they are working on it ...

Until they fix it you could use your sniper mode to find those campers that hide behind every corner and wait until they decide to come out ...

            That's one defect that I like. I hope they don't fix it...LOL

It really comes in handy on the Face maps.

Thanks for stepping in and keeping the Thread going Kruzin sometime I think we have too many Moderators and 'ALMOST' Moderators around here

Well Rags, I definitely have to say that as long as you're happy with what you've got, there really isn't a whole lot of reason to move from a G400 based card to anything like the GeForce2. On the other hand, I'm just an overclocking performance nut, who also like good quality thrown into the mix. So once I "tried out" the Gladiac, and found it's image quality to be on par with my G400Max (in my system, YMMV), and saw the nearly doubled performance with that quality, I bought the it.

Obviously, I couldn't lose those unique (and greatly loved) features that the G400Max has that no other card (still!) has, including the dual-head, DVDMax, EMBM, and great out-of-the-box color calibration (in both 2D and 3D). By getting my wife to let me swap it into her system, I get to take advantage of those features nearly any time I want (the best of both worlds, hehe ).

The two biggest drawbacks for the GeForce2 cards are as follows though (and they've been named above, I think.. too lazy to reopen the post to check. ):
              1) Less vibrant display (you pointed out the difference between reds and blues in Half-Life as an example. Caveat- this is mainly an adjustment problem. The GeForce2's (at least my Gladiac) are easily capable of the same color fidelity, but require much tweaking to get it. Big points for Matrox here.
              2) Cost. With G400's going for <$200 right now, everyone has a shot at an extremely good video accelerator, with lots (and I do mean lots) of cool features, many of which cannot be had elsewhere, at any price under $800. GeForce2's are still running at around $300, at best, and nearly 400 or 500 for some boards or at some places, and while it has a few nifty features, it should've had most of the same set already implemented in the Matrox line, but doesn't. (All costs in US $)

Okay, gotta point out something in the nVidia card's favor right now, even though it bothers me. This goes back to your pic, too, dZeus. I still get that in UT with my G400Max (always have, no matter the OS or driver). It's not too big an issue, as it doesn't keep me from playing the game at all, and I do sometimes use that uh.. feature, when playing on CTF-Face. Nothing like the surprise that the other guy must feel when you nail him the first time he steps from behind a column, eh?

Anyway, the point for the GeForce card is this, despite being so new, it doesn't exhibit this problem at all. In fact, the only problem I've found with it in UT involves volumetric lighting. If I have it enabled, powerups and ammo sparkle at a distance (goes away when you get close enough). I sure hope Matrox figures this out soon. I would like to be able to do a better image quality comparison using UT (which, most of you know, is my favorite game). As it stands, I'm not sure it's really fair to the G400 when I say it's 3D is only on par with the GTS, as it might only be misperception because of those texturing problems.

Ah well, gotta love you guys. We have a family tiff, and then get right back down to business.

                Kruzin:

Some of us only strayed from the path of the mighty M because we couldn't wait for the G800 any longer. But I shall buy one unless it turns out to be a terrible card on all counts, and that WON'T happen. I already miss my G400's Win2k stability.

Jorden...how can you be a moderator...with this attitude...grow up man...

So what if APV, The Rock, Ace got themselves some GeForces?...they owned at some time a Matrox card and from their posts i can tell that they were happy with them...so what if they have another card in their systems now...i'm sure that if the G800 was out, they would've gone for that (as i would)...but saying that they should leave the forum, as its only for Matrox_users seems a bit imature to me...i respect everyones opinion if it's backed up with facts and a little information about how other cards work it's always welcome (i speak for myself here)

Their opinions were expressed in a polite manner and from their replies one can see there was no flaming intended...

I have no brand loyalty so i'll always choose the best card for me (not necessarly the fastest, or most expensive, or newest), but the card that best suits me at one time. If that card be Matrox, 3dfx, nVIDIA etc., so be it...i don't really care...

I really like these forums and i come here often (almost daily) to read the new topics...i rarely post anything...because fortunately all my card related problems were already answered...and because i have a slow (and expensive, go figure) internet connection...or perhaps nothing to say?

Anyway, saying that you're not interested in another person's opinion (i don't dare to say friend, even though i consider you all my friends even if we never met or talked, but this is my feeling when i enter this forum...) is a sign of narrow vision or just plain stupidity (my opinion, don't forget that...)

And i posted this here even though i should have started a new topic in the Soapbox forum but i felt that in this case this is more appropriate...if you don't like it, move it, i don't care, this is another one of your attributions...no?

Oh, BTW, BIG KUDOS to you, Kruzin...nice way of stepping in...now that's more like a moderator should act!

                  That's all for now...

                  Bye

about the screenshot: yes, I also 'used' that bug in multiplayer UT, and I also suggested to Matrox that if they can ever fix it, it would be nice to have an option in powerdesk to enable the bug again :-)

I didn't get my information from the web site, I looked there as well and couldn't find anything. I got it by asking a friend that does a lot of hardware testing and he told me that some models of the Geforce are capable of that, such as the ASUS Geforce Deluxe. I guess I now have to go borrow one for a few days just to test that since this friend doesn't live in the same city as I do.

Hehe. Ask 'em if they can make the feature hot-key linkable, so we can enable the "x-ray vision" capability in the middle of a match, then return to normal view, as needed. That'd be pretty neat!

because a.f.a.i.k. this feature is unique to the G400 DH (sending the video overlay automatically to fullscreen TV out while having the desktop unchanged or the movie even minimized)
