      by the way..... shhh!

nobody except for MU needs to know this... otherwise everyone who plays UT wants to buy a G400, and then there is no Matrox community any more, since everyone will be MatroxUser.... can't let that happen :-)

sending the video overlay automatically to fullscreen TV out while having the desktop unchanged or the movie even minimized
Maggi, assuming I'm understanding properly what you are saying here(and that has a certain percentage of doubt ) octoman may be right. One of my friends bought a Dell PIII a few months back with one of Dell's in house GeForce cards. It has TV-out and the full works. I've watched DVD's before using her computer. To make sure we're not getting mixed messages here, let me just describe to you what we do.
Put the DVD into the DVDROM drive. Autoplay detects the DVD and opens the DVD player. WE hit play and Movie appears on the TV screen as well as in an 800x600? window on the desktop. You can still see the desktop behind the windows, no minimizing of anything, no pushing any other buttons, just play and then watch the movie.

I'm not trying to start a flame war here or anything, in fact, I'm not quite sure what I am doing. I geuss I'm just offering some information.

            Ian

P.S. Octoman, next time you respond to someone with information don't be so rude about it. "next time before you speak, take the time to do some research" is not particularly conducive to getting help or polite responses from anyone. Something more along the lines of "Hey Maggi, I just checked Asus's web site and it looks like the V6600 Deluxe does support that feature now" would have been much more effective and much less inflamatory. Maybe you couldn't tell but it seemed to me the Maggi was trying very hard to restrain himself from flaming you out of existence and I don't blame him for wanting to do so.

yeah, don't almost all card with TV-Out do that? the special thing about the G400 is that you can use your primary dispay for something else at the same time!

And you can use the TV as a secondary desktop, or as zoom desktop. Or you could even attach a monitor to it! try THAT with your Geforce (can I say GeFarce without insulting you?)

Barmaleus, I was set straight by Kruzin already, and yes, set straight by you as well (in my opinion ).

Why I am a moderator? Ask Ant
Also, because I transfer lots of info from all over the fori to the FAQ forum, just in hope that people coming here with a certain problem check there first, instead of asking us for the so-manied-time how they should try to get their Gx00 on IRQ9, for instance.

And no, we don't mind answering it again in a thread started by a mini not knowing where to go or ask

But that set aside, I stand accused of and found guilty

                My apologies.

Ooops, looks like I misread a little bit. I knew I was going to misunderstand something there.
Ok, so I get it now, the question is whether or not you can do something else while a DVD is playing out to the TV. That I honestly don't know. I don't think we tried minimizing the DVD player while the movie was playing. Most of us were watching on the Computer screen anyway since it looked nicer.

Well, if I get a chance one of these upcoming weekends we'll have to go watch a movie on her computer and see if we can do other things while the movie is playing.

It is sort of amusing to see people waiting for the G800. Considering that the card will not appear this year. Have you ever seen Matrox release two seperate cards in a 6 month time frame?

Besides, when the G800 comes out. It will have to compare to the NV20 and the Rampage from 3dfx (Rampage is supposedly using the Giga technology).

The G400 was a good card. I say "Was" because the card is very old considering it was released last year?

I feel for anyone waiting for a G800. You are missing out on some great high resolution gaming with the other companies that release cards every 6 months.

SaltedPeanut, maybe they release cards every 6 months, but what about dedicated and 'stable' drivers for their (then very?) older cards?

No Barmaleus, I won't go there again

But what do you need with a videocard with all the latest new inventions, that no app or game supports? Or that needs for example Direct X 8.5 when even Dx8.0 hasn't shown up yet?

Okay, I'm going too far again. Excuse me Barmaleus & Kruzin

Thanx for feedback and input, HedsSpaz !

I didn't know, that ASUS got that fullscreen feature in their newer cards and I still wonder why there's no 'big banner' to point that out (not having to playback fullscreen on VGA too).

DVD Maxx adds to that (when your CPU is powerfull enough) that you could feed your kiddies TV in the living with the 25th repetition of "Bug's Life" while posting more or less usefull/less comment in some strange bulletin board hanging out with nuts & geeks ...

Your post scriptum is pretty straight to the point and more than that, it's a very good example of communication ... very constructive !

Other topic ... your TV looks worse than your VGA ???

Better check your connections, because even when send 'only' through FBAS (RCA jack) the picture should look way superior due to the different color models that are used (RGB vs. Y-UV)!!!

Or is your tele that old ?

Anyway, have fun and thanx again for your post - good to see there are some fireworkers around ...

                              Cheers,

Well when the G400 showed up in stores, you also had(and still have)capabilities like bump mapping which to this day still isn't used very often,i mean to this day,how many games use it,either by means of a patch or alredy with bump mapping support built in,maybe what 10 or 15 games???,that isn't a whole lot,it's the same thing that happens when you buy a new card, pretty soon all cards available on the market will be so fast that you won't be able to judge a card by how fps it get's in any given game, since all of them will be able to play any game at 1600*1200,don't believe me...well i just bought a Geforce2 64meg(prophet II)and needless to say,the card is impressive.i'm now playing Q3 32 bit at 1280*1024 at almost 70 fps(timedemo 1),if i lower to 16 bit(the other settings stay the same) i'm doing the same 70 fps but at 1600*1200(40 at 32 bit),the image looks much better that playing at a lower res but with AA enabled, the point is that next year's cards(hopefully that will include the G800)will be able to play any game at very high resolutions,by that time the real winner will be judged not on speed issues, but on feature sets, especially if those features get used in games.
                                note to self...
