Speaking of those magazine reviews- guess what card is still at the top of the list for video cards, including value for the money? (Even after 2 GeForce 2's entered the list)

Hint: It had dual-head and environment mapped bump mapping first, and this version has a 360Mhz RAMDAC.

It all started for me back on 3/27/96 when I shelled out $326.64 for a Matrox MGA Millennium 2MB WRAM PCI card. And it has been nothing but Matrox, except for a 30-day lapse of reason when I bought a Riva 128ZX card, since then mainly because of the image quaility.

I have Matrox cards in all my home PCs(3) and I even took my oldest card to work and put it in my workstation to replace the crappy onboard ATI video.

My Matrox start came with a mystique 4MB. I could get it for the same price as a 2MB because they didn't have it in stock. Since then I have loved the sheer quality of the display on my monitor and have upgraded to a Marvel g200 (32 bit color, 32 bit z-buffer!!!) more than a year and a half ago. It still manages to kick G-force butt in a 2D display. I'm hoping I can afford a Marvel G400 upon the G450 release, so I can still have that warm fuzzy feeling inside.

Matrox does not have to release newly designed chips every 6-8 months. They have built a solid customer base because of their image quality, reliability, and innovative engineering. They have found a niche in the marketplace, and it is not in the high end gaming arena. While they do not want to ignore this sector of the buying public, they do not gear their cards specifically for them. G450 being a prime example. Again I do believe that the G800 will be a very nice leap forward in terms of speed and features, ala the G200 -> G400 , however the card will not be the performance champ, and you know what? Matrox's customers won't care.

My first Matrox card was bought in January 2000!

I really wanted some new hardware, and I decided to find out if Matrox was as good as I had heard, no need to say it was

I'll really have to restrain myself not to buy the G800 when it comes out, not that I'll need it, I rarely play games, but I don't think I can stop myself

                      Millenium 1 for ever !
Still have it... Only 2 megs on mine.
Later on I switched to a G200, an ATi Rage Fury 32MB and shortly after to my current G400.
The millenium is the BEST card ever, always saving me when AGP or too new hw fails. Whatever OS you name, the millenium is fully supported.

My first MGA was Millennium 2, 4MB. I selected it because it was the best 2D-card in the market at the time. It just was so much better in high resolutions and things like that... I'm still using that card in my 2nd computer (until I get G800 for my Athlon, so that G400 goes to Cel540, and Mill2 goes to P166MMX, and S3Trio64V+ goes to garbage

I think that Matrox should release G800 as fast as possible, or at least send me a sample of it (I'm almost sure that the card is currently 100% ready, and already being manufactured) .. Just can't wait for DX8 release (and there's a leaked beta of it on the net, too) ..

My friend just bought new Tbird700 with G400. Mobo was KA7, so there were some problems with everything, including G400. Updating BIOS to RY (beta) version fixed everything.

His friend also bought similar computer (KA7-100, Tbird (700?) and G400 (max?)). Haven't yet received all the parts needed.

Isn't it weird? If you want to buy a computer, here in Finland, it's like buying one in Russia (no offense)... Yes, you can buy, but have to wait sometimes really long until you get whatever you bought, if you ever get it. Resellers don't have anything in stock, they order everything from importer, who orders the stuff from somewhere... ARGH!
