forgot to mention that after updating you have to reconfigure your system, i.e. re-enable DMA on your CD-ROM, harddrives & IDE controller etc.

        Hi

I have this update, but have not tried it yet. Someone posted a reply about USB support. I don't know whether I have OSR2.0 or OSR2.? with the USB support. I will try the INF update tonight.

        Many thanks

As I remember it, the only difference between OSR2.0 and OSR2.1 is the USB add-on and a fix in IO.SYS on some languages (in 2.0 HIMEM.SYS reported a way too high memory foot print).
Anyway, if you've got 2.1 you still have to install USB support yourself from CD (USBSUPP.EXE or some such).

In DEVICE MANAGER do you show USB HOST CONTROLLER or is there a question mark?
AGP doesn't work correcly in WIN95 w/o the USB suplement. While I don't have the linkl you could do a search on the M$ site, they should have it available.

                Good Morning People

I am in a good mood as, IT NOW WORKS!!!!

                1) Is was definitly the 'Clock Spectrum Spead' enabled which caused the motherboard to report the CPU as 706 instead of 750.

                2) I have OSR2.0 without the USB supliment. (I did have a question mark on my USB controller)

I installed the new .INF files. Windows found all sorts of new hardware, Host bridges, AGP controllers, power management controllers and ISA bridges. When it came to the USB controller, it could not find UHCD.SYS or USBD.SYS. However it put the USB controller at the bottom of the list with an exclamation mark on it.

Windows now boots with the Matrox Bus mastering switched on.

I had a look on Micro$ofts site and found out that OSR2.1 and OSR2.5 came with an extra directory \OTHERS\USB. In this directory are three files, README.TXT, REM.PSS and USBSUPP.EXE. Microsofts site said that these were not downloadable, so I did an FTP search for USBSUPP.EXE. Found quite a few sites with it on (961K) downloaded it and ran it. It was though the text was for a different language, as all the text in the windows boxes was garbbled. Will try and find a version in English!!

I have also ordered an Athlon case. These appear to have a 300Watt PSU and provide much better voltage regulation, can't hurt.

I will try Win98SE now, with the new INF file as Win98SE used to fail everytime.

Many thanks to all who helped.

                JayDee

                            Hi people

O.K., O.K. my G400 dosen't SUCK any more, but the frame rate on GP3 is still half the rate I get on a borrowed Voodoo5 5500.

Why do I stick with Win95, well, 1) If it isn't broke, don't fix it! 2) I use parts of Powertoys95 alot. (I have found that Powertoys can be hacked to work under Win98SE). 3) My Matrox Bus mastering only used to work under Win95, but now I have the new Windows INF file, I will give Win98SE a go. (It's just the thought of reloading the OS + all the packages from scratch, that puts me off)

                            Many thanks
