  • G400max, memory and "timing"

Problem:My G400max is still not able to play OGL Q2 or HL or Opfor with drivers above 5.41.
Clicking on directional keys causes offset parallel lines or something like full screen shearing. D3D and 2D are beautiful.(A full description of the problem and previous discusions at http://forum.matrox.com/mgaforum/For...ML/000842.html ) and Matrox even went so far as to send me a new card. No difference. OK, So it has to be a configuration problem.

Friends have suggesting that my SDRAM, fsb, and AGP SGRAM speeds/frequency are not matched.
I looked in my BIOS and can find reference to CPU BUS/PCI but no AGP settings of any kind outside of Graphic Aperture Setting.
I ran Powerstrip after reading some of the posts here and got the following:
    Diagnostic report

I didn't see a GART manager listed there. Now it may be nothing on an intel system (mines a via), but it could be the reason for it. Considering the HW/SW-tricks intel did to get AGP running. So you may want to check into that. Also what MB are you using and include the bios rev. I'd also try changing your bios settings to the "safe" setting if yours has it.

Just my 2cents, I'll write more if I get anymore ideas.

        My system is as follows:
        -------------------------
Motherboard: ASUS P3B-F AWARD Bios 6.0 BIOS 1003 PNP Extension 1.0A

        CPU: Intel 500MHz (5X100), i440BX

        RAM: 128 RAM, SpecTek PC100 SDRAM, 16MegX64 8chips

Video: Matrox Millenium G400max 32MB AGP Bios 1.6.25 PD5.52, IRQ 10, Graphic Aperture Setting 64MB

Sound: Creative Sound Blaster Live MP3+ PCI 128,Drivers ver 4.11.01.0711, Live Ware 3.0 IRQ 11

        Monitor:Viewsonic E790 NI .26 19in.

I looked at my MB and the jumpers are all at "off" which should mean that I can change clock values through the BIOS but I can't see where.

        Does this info help?

probably nothing to do with your problem but you could try updating your bios to 1006 to see if it helps.my p3b-f is only stable in games with AGPx1 so maybe you can try that

Flashing the BIOS has come to mind. I believe the current version is even 1009.

How did you set your AGP to 1X with the P3B-F and if from within the BIOS, how?
            Thank you.

              derah,
I use the matrox utility "mtstutil200". it allows you to do various other things including ogl changes but I simply use it to change AGPx. as for your bios upgrade,I was referring to your motherboard bios version 1003. have you tried increasing your AGP aperture size to 128 or even 256(mine is set at 256).

We're on the same wavelength. The MB BIOS is 1009. I have looked at all resolutions, all refresh rates, all G400 drivers from 5.25 to the new betas, all G.A.S., etc.
The utility sounds interesting. I'l give it a shot. Thanks.

Well, I can add Soldier Of Fortune to my list http://www.3dgamers.com/3daction/00byhardware/OpenGL/
of OpenGL games that have the shearing.

                  ayoub:
I set the AGP X1 and at 64MB and 256MB G.A.S. The shearing is much worse at AGP X1.
The whole system froze at 256MB .

derah, when you installed pd5.52 did you have windows standard vga drivers in before installation of new pd? I gather that's the recommended way.have you checked to see if opengl32.dll(a windows file) is in your windows/system folder &that its not corrupt or damaged?

                      Yes and yes.
Leo, from Matrox, and I actually uninstalled and reinstalled 5.52 and 6 Betas together. I have formatted HD and reinstalled Win98 and matrox drivers ad nauseum.

Thanks again. I used the mtstu200.exe program
                        to enable vsynch for OpenGl.
Half Life OpForce, Quake2 and the Soldier of Fortune demo are rock solid up to 1024X768X16.
