  • help me on g400max 2x speed with CUSL2

    Anyone please help me,

I just upgraded my mobo with asus cusl2 (i815e) from asus p3bf (intel bx) and got a strange problem from my g400max. from fresh install i always got only 1x agp speed, if i force to switch it to 2x, everytime i got into windows the screen is greatly corrupt and seems to hang/scrambled. i didn't get this problem when using p3bf. anyone please help me, it's very annoying using 1x speed especially when you know 2x speed is better.

    any help would be appreciated.

    regards

    kustadi

    Hi Kustadi,

I haven't had the CUSL2 in my hands yet, therefore I can only guess ...

Your problem might be related to an improper FSB/AGP bus divider settings.
What I mean is that there are usually automated dividers to let the AGP bus run in spec (2/3 of 100MHz FSB = 66.6 MHz AGP bus).

Make sure that these are correct and also have a readout of Windows' IRQ assignment and post 'em here.

Did you also update your Intel busdrivers already ? http://support.intel.com/support/chipsets/driver.htm

    Cheers,
    Maggi

      Thanks Maggi

It's nice you try to help me, but the asus cusl2 mobo didn't got any agp divider speed (not on the mobo or there's none stated on the manual). i guess it's already done automatically, like on p3bf. i already think that as an issue. i'm not updating the inf file because i'm using win me which detecting the chipset just fine. i've downloaded the inf update but when i tried to install that it said that the newest version is already installed (i guess the win me inf is newer). the funny thing i discover too is when i'm using wcpuid 2.8 (from h-oda) there's a tab to check your agp speed, it detected i815 finely but it stated that my mobo max agp speed is 2x, current agp speed is 1x. it's supposed to be 4x, i think there must be a problem with the agp pro slot asus cusl2 have.

but anyway, thank you for your nice reply. anyone try to help me? or got the same problem? one more, right now my system cannot be restarted, even i'm using win 98, win 98se, win me if i'm put my g400 max card. but it's restarted ok if i just use the on-board intel 752 vga.

      best regards

Which BIOS version are you running?
        Have you updated from 1001.A?
I have this mobo and know a little of some of it's quirks, but you have to provide some more info.

In your latest problem, you stated that now you can't even get it to boot with the G400.
Did this happen after you updated to 1002?

If this is the case you need to clear the CMOS. This can be done in two ways, either by shorting the two solder points (CLRTC just to the right of the ICH2, page 14 in the printed manual), or by removing the lithium cell for a few minutes (same page in manual). REMEMBER to unplug the power cord before you do this.
This is one of the known quirks with the CUSL2, I've been there .

If this is not the case, you must tell when this started and also if you're running the P3 733 at default, or if it's the 550 overclocked (I was a bit unsure of that).

              hi sisyfos

i'm sorry not explain it correctly. actually i have upgraded the 1002 bios successfully. the problem is not i can not boot the system, only if i get into windows me with 2x agp speed, at about 2 seconds after all the drivers, tsr, etc loaded, my screen got messed up/garbled and my system hang.

i'm using 733 mhz processor (box) not 550e overclocked, because i'm a very conservative person. this thing started when i upgrade to cusl2.

btw, do you ever use wcpuid 2.8 (from h-oda) and check your max agp speed for your mobo and your current agp speed. for more info, my mobo is cusl2 with pcb rev.1.02 not cusl2-m (micro atx version)

              thank you

Holy CRAP that's a lot of IRQ's being shared. I'd suggest you try and give the G400 and the SB Live! individual IRQ's. I've heard that solution usually works well but for me the Live! has always been alone on IRQ5 so that might have been it.

You are experiencing the Free Beer on IRQ 11 phenomenon and basically it is an old hat that the G400 needs an IRQ of 9 or above on its own.

May I point you to this direction ?

                        hi all

i try to change the g400max irq to 10 but i can not do that via windows, so i try to reserver irq 10 via bios. right now i've been using my pc with agp 2x speed for about 1 hour without any problem.

i will post more results, maybe to help somebody who had the same problem with me.

                        thank you all

the problem still persist today when i turn on my pc. i got tired already. is this a problem with my g400max agp 2x only version or there's still something wrong with the asus cusl2 mobo.

thanks for being so kind helping me out

                            Try this.
                            In BIOS setup:
Assigned IRQ to USBx: Disabled - This will let Windows IRQ router handle the IRQ assignment. Or, try to have SMBUS and USBs shared IRQ with PS/2 mouse.
If you're not using any USB devices, disable USB controller completely in the BIOS. This will free up IRQs.

Use latest LiveWare driver for SBLive!. Latest LiveWare driver can share SB16 emulation IRQ with LPT at IRQ7. Make sure "Share LPT IRQ" in properties is checked. This will free up IRQ5. Maybe SMBUS/USBs can use this.

Make G400 and SBlive! on IRQ11 and IRQ10, or vice versa. DO NOT SHARE IRQ BETWEEN THEM.

My vanilla G400DH work at AGP 2x right out of the box with VIA MVP3 chipsets. Zero stability issues, period.

                              kustadi,

I maybe having the same problem as you. I did clean instal of WinMe, using P3 700 overclocked to 933 on Asus CUSL2.

The system works excellent except when it wakes up from suspend or monitor power off. The screen comes corrupt and the system hangs.

Did you managed to sort out your problem?
