    G400MAX, Non OC'd.
    PIII-1Ghz @ 1035 (138FSB) on a BX Chipset @ AGP2X.

1024x32 - most features enabled, and very playable.

UT, Q3, STV Elite Forces, Half-life, etc...

I'm not the best player, but in STVEF, I get my share of kills and wins. For a 2 year old, she still seems to be an all-around thoroughbred (sp?) to me...

Oh yeah, forgot - Mech 4, and Star Lancer as well... Great image quality, and speed on tap (as long as the processor pushes it out)

Guyv (That's a definite YES BTW)

      Hi,

my machine is an Athlon TB 1GHz, G400Max, W2K and my favourite game is Quake 2 (it still rocks). The Max is fast enough for playing Q2 in 1024x768x32, but I usually prefer 800x600x16.

Just for fun I tested a TNT2 Ultra for a few days. With normal settings it was slightly slower than the G400Max. I o'clocked the TNT2U, did some tweaking and it ran very fast, almost 15% faster than the G400Max. But: Q2 looked horrible, so I reinstalled the Matrox.

So, yes, I'm still happy with my Matrox, and as long as I keep playing Q2, I can wait for a new card from big M.

You know.. I hate to say it, but I am really not very satisified with my MAX anymore. When I got he card, I was thrilled, and I still like the image quality.. but it just doesn't have the power for newer games that I try to play. And some games that are coming out over the next few months will look like a slideshow on the MAX unless you turn it down to 640x480.

Question to those who are not satisfied with your Matrox: Why grunt and rant, change your Matrox to something else that you think that will be better than your current card. (i.e. Kyro, Radeon, Geforce)

I tried ATI and it sucks, sticking with Matrox all the way!
To me it's the best 2D/Dual Head I've seen to date, and I use it a lot.

No, I did, and yes, in that order, heh.

No, toward the end of the last year I began to become a little disenchanted with the overall performance of my G400Max in games compared to other products on the market.

              So..
I DID buy an Elsa Gladiac 32MB, which I shoved into the machine I use primarily for gaming, and then I put the G400Max into my wife's system in place of the old V770U that used to reside in it.

I AM still satisfied with the Max, I just won't select it as my first choice for games. I've always loved the vibrance and overall clarity that the Max has exhibited, and none of that has changed. It's still more than useful for gaming in a pinch. I still want it around for it's versatility and especially for use for editing the pics and videos I get with my digital camera, scanner, and video camera, since it's the best card I've yet seen for such tasks. (I know, I know.. the ATI cards are good for this too, but nothing, and I mean nothing, has yet beat the image quality of my Matrox card!)

Well this is my story about me and Matrox...When I was putting together my current system back in November of 1998 with its Celeron 300A in it, I selected the G200 Marvel for its TV in and mutlimedia capities that it offered after seen my Fathers ATI All-in-wonder card (think it was a Rage 128 or something), but I didn't want the crumy driver support that the ATI card had. For my 3D gaming I got myself a Voodoo2 SLI setup, which ment that I had probally the best All around Video cards that Money could buy.

About 6 months later I heard that Matrox was coming out with a G400 card that would run faster then the Videosetup that I had at the time. I was pleased with Matrox driver support and I did the waiting game like everyone else did for the G400Max to come out. I was very pleased with it till this past year. I had all intentions on waiting for the next gen Matrox product, but after hearing all the rumors about the G800 coming out since last summer(!), I was a bit fed up...though an odd turn of events I winded up getting myself a Radeon AIW card last December. I'm more or less happy with it, though I run into driver problems here and there with it in Win9X with games. I've been planning on getting a new computer with the lastest AMD Chip in it but I wont buy it till Matrox has something I can stick in it thats faster then their MAX I have that is collecting dust....thats one good thing about waiting I can get a hella fast CPU for cheap by the time Matrox comes out with something..

The G200 Marvel is now in my fathers Secondary system a P3-500 and my G400Max is waiting for me to find a good home to put it in. I'm not planning on getting rid of either of them for a while either. I'm not mad at Matrox...just a bit dissapointed that we haven't heard the least about a new Chip or what ever from them in nearly 2 years! They will always have me a customer as long as they don't forget about the gaming end of the market....

I don't either, and I have a GeForce 2 Ultra in my gaming machine.

I'm very satisfied with my G400 MAX. I've had it over 18 months now (September 2, 1999) and it will continue to serve as my non-gaming machine's display until another Matrox part takes its place. The new W2K drivers are great.

I've also several older cards (Millenium II's, G200, Millennium 1's). They are in just about every machine but the gaming machine.

The next step: seeing if XFree86 will compile and run a PCI Millennium II in my new Sun Blade 100 (33Mhz PCI slots - I gotta try it).

                        I'm running my G400 Max on a 15 inch NEC 3V @ 1024x768 60 Hz. Damn I need a new monitor.

I don't game much, but have the odd flutter on Q3A, which I run at max settings 800x600x16 (Bilinear).

                        I get about 74fps average on Demo127.

Any higher resolution or colour depth and the slow down becomes too much in busy times.

                        I'm running a 1 Ghz T-Bird @ 1.22 Ghz + 256Mb RAM @ 148 Mhz Cas 2. So it's defintely the G400 Max that's the bottle neck.

I'm happy enough with the G400 Max, but I'm upgrading to probably a Kyro II or Radeon (or whatevers suitable) in a few months.

Ad_B how can you live with such a fast machine and such a crappy monitor? i've had a 17" for over four years now and i never regretted buying it..

and i am not satisfied with my matrox card, because a millennium 1 isn't really great for playing fps games

hopefully i'll be able to afford a new pc this summer.. (and hopefully i can put a g8000maxx3 in )

I'll never buy Matrox again. I have a G200 under Win2k, and it's an absolute disaster, even in 2D (you should see the stutter of flash, vectorgraphics programmes) - it's absolutely worthless... I had a Nvidia card on loan to compare and the difference is unbelievable... I'm surprised Matrox is still around... they ****ed their customers real good - they deserve to go down.

Still using a G200 with RR-G in my Duron @ 1030 Mhz Win 95se. It's still perfectly adequate for 95% of the things I do with my PC such as video editing. Picture quality is of Matrox's usual unbeatability.

On of the additional advantages of owning an older Matrox card is that the drivers are rock solid in everyday use. Dunno about Win2k though!

Excuse me ? You are aware of Matrox terrible fowl up regarding drivers ? Especially in the 3D arena... Matrox cards are useless.

                                Dunno about Win2k though!

Well, as far as win2k is concerned... the drivers can't even decently perform 2D, I can't display flash, use CorelDraw or Illustrator, can't play movies (except at 10x10 resolution), Photoshop is reasonable (but not what it should be)

What I hate most about Matrox is the incredible amount of lies and propaganda they use (more than 400 awards ??? For what, for ripping people off) to cover up their mistakes...

No more Badrox for me. I'm really sorry they didn't go bust. Nobody deserves this kind of treatment.
