Then again... comparing how much time I think I need to get back here and say something about CeBit, sit back and enjoy.

Coming Saturday we expect to leave around 6am, go to Enschede to pick up dZeus (if he still wants to), drive on to Hannover in Germany. The drive alone will be at least 4 hours, with the foot&mouth outbreak here and queue's at the border, we expect around 5 hours.
To get into the CeBit halls, we expect at least a waiting time of around 1.5 hours, maybe more.
To arrive at hall 9, booth B35, which we haven't got a clue as to where it is, and CeBit is 35 halls big, well, try your own guess My estimate comes out on 3 hours.
We also have to visit the ATI booth, of which I don't have a clue where it is, so expect another 3 hours.
Then trying to go home, no estimate onto that one. No estimate onto a what if we loose someone of our party and have to find him or her.
Then the journey back home, which will take another 4 to 5 hours.

Hummm, and that's going to CeBit from Holland. I don't expect too many MURCers living in Hannover, or close by

My journey to see miss Marvel and miss Millennium will take at least 18 hours. Pffew

          Jord.

Well, at least ATI's booth appears to be in the same hall... You'd better make clear to ms. Marvel & Millennium that you've traveled all the way to see 'em (maybe you shouldn't mention the Render Subject Nude feature though)
            Have a nice trip

We managed to talk to a Matrox' employee.
'Well, but where is G600... or may be G800, eh?' - 'We've got G450, that's our newest product' - 'You don't say so' - 'Really. But frankly speaking, you may expect a comletely new chip...soon' - 'When???' - 'It's confidential. All I can say - wait till summer' - 'How will it be called?' - 'Can't say... Don't know...Don't like to...' - 'At least the codename, may be?' - 'You are from 3dnews, aren't you? Then no comments'

                    Hi all,

Ok, let's face it: we won't see a new chip/card from Matrox in the near future. No news from Cebit, no news from GDC ... no news at all.

I think we all just expected too much. Beginning with the G450, Matrox has entirely focussed on business customers. If I want to buy a card with decent gaming performance, Matrox is no longer an option.

                    'nuff said...

Well, if M doesn't announce something besides another business oriented marketing ploy based on G450, I have to say, well, they are either playing beaten or their original G800 design was just too slow.

Personally I believe the original G800 which fit the rumored specs (3 textures, 800Mpixels, etc.) was just too slow when compared with Nvidia's R&D. Matrox probably chucked the whole thing and is more than likely currently reworking it. Sure Nvidia doesn't get the whole quality thing, but they sure can whip out some new ideas that have some speed behind them. At least they aren't just throwing out 500 different products based on GF2MX, which would fit a certain fav company of our's tactics. Albeit Twinview is a joke. I don't use DualHead though even with my G400DH.

With my recent upgrade to a 1GHz P3, I've realized that my G400 is getting darned close to worthless for games. It has troubles with NOLF at high detail settings even at 800x600x16. That's a bummer considering it's clocked 177/200 with a 1GHz P3 behind it.

If Matrox announces something this summer, like the rumors are saying (more damn rumors), we won't see a board till Fall. And that board will suffer supply and demand from a combination of an overly schemeing marketing dept at Matrox and poor supply. In other words, I won't be able to afford one till this time next year. Woohoo.

Basically the industry as a whole is boring me these days. Matrox is complacent and doesn't seem to understand how to gain a fan base (like they love us Murcers, right.)

I don't care what you guys think of Nvidia, they know how to get fans. If they ever get equal quality and dualhead I think we can all say bubye to Matrox MGA.

                        Hey guys....

Just wondering something. I've owned many an nVidia card over the last several years, and have been completely turned off by the skyrocketing pricing that has taken place over the last 2 years or so. Namely, there have been more incremental performance increases, with the promise of having games take advantage of varying features, such as: Dot3 BM, T&L, Pixel shaders, and now the slew of GeForce3 features which won't translate to games until the end of the year, and beyond.

So, with the release of the newest PVR Kyro2 chip, I have really come to appreciate what it has to offer. Namely, exceptional performance, awesome internal color precision, support for at least one feature (Dot3) that's supported by a few games, and cheap price.

Have any of you guys given this card any serious consideration? I've taken a look at some of the performance numbers for Matrox cards, and like the guy said above, it's getting to the point where gaming on their cards is becoming increasingly more difficult.

I would strongly urge you guys to check out this latest chip. When it hits the market in another week or 2, I bet you will begin to see it online for less than it's $149.00 pricetag, and it would make for an excellent 3D gaming card until such a time when DX8 cards become necessary (as in, there are at least a handful of games needing a DX8 card). At least with the Kyro2, you wouldn't end up dumping such a large investment into the thing, that upgrading to a DX8 card (whenever that turns out to be) won't make you regret having purchased a $150 or less card.

Anyhow, I was interested in knowing whether any of you guys have given it much thought.

Yeah this is getting pretty darn ludicrous. Originally the next Gen card was supposed to come out last fall. Here we are knocking on the door of Q2 2001 and still nada. It's coming up on a full two years since the G400 was released. Generally that spells disaster in this very fast-paced and highly innovative market segment. I just secured a PS2, so I'm not that concerned about solely relying on my PC for gaming. However this waiting game has become so drawn out and tedious, that I would suggest to all those still waiting for a reprieve to save themselves the torment and simply forget about it. If another worthwhile product from Matrox ever does see the light of day, I would just evaluate it at that point.

actually i didnt play many games at all lately (icewind dale was the last game i really played.
if matrox brings out a new card in summer, thats fine with me, because i will just have finished school then, which means ill have a lot of time. now i just need money as well
i would prefer them to announce a chip at cebit though, just because its gonna take a few months for cards featuring that chip will be available.
as for the specs named above, if you bundle those with dx8features and tile based rendering, they are more than enough to make me happy
