    • I don´t want a card that is exeptionally fast. I just want one with a lot of useful features but unlike Radeon I want decent drivers.

      • I second that Novdid. I'm sick and tired from the fact that I can't run roughly half of all opengl apps. Funny thing is that games usually run fine. But every now and then comes a program, I run it, it crashes, I start troubleshooting it and end up reading a FAQ stating "Symptom: program crashes with message blahblahblah - Cause: You have a Matrox G400, don't you? Well that is your problem. Solution: run in software mode (you'll get 1-2fps and the rendering won't be accurate but it will work)".

        Grrrrr. Is it really impossible to write a fully functional OpenGL ICD?
        Someday, we'll look back on this, laugh nervously and change the subject.

        • Posted today in alt.comp.periphs.videocard.nvidia:
          ============================================

          I found some specs that compare the GeForce2 GTS to the Matrox G800.

          Here are some of the Matrox G800 specs:

          250MHz DDR RAM clock (GeForce2: 166)
          3 pixels/clockcycle, 3 textures/pixel (G400MAX 2/1; GF2: 4/2)

          G400 ------> 2 rendering pipelines/1 pixels per clock (300/300)
          GF-256 ----> 4 rendering pipelines/1 pixels per clock (480/480)
          GF2Mx ----> 2 rendering pipelines/2 pixels per clock (350/700)
          G800 ------> 3 rendering pipelines/3 pixels per clock (600/1800)
          GF2GTS ---> 4 rendering pipelines/2 pixels per clock (800/1600)

          Fillrate 600 MPixels, respectively 1800 MTexels (G400MAX 300/300; GF2:
          800/1600)
          T&L unit with 20-30 million polys/sec
          DualChip setup capability

          - Pin compatible with G450
          - Double fillrate of G450
          - Support for 250MHz DDR FCRAM
          - Support for Hardware T&L
          - Support for DirectX 8.0 Shader and fully functional DX7
          - New DX7, 8 IDC drivers

          It appears the G800 MAY perform at the same level as the GTS but I will
          have to see the actual test numbers before I'll believe it. Matrox should
          be releasing the card in a couple of weeks. That's the plan anyway.

          • I`m afraid I can`t believe anything anymore ...
            But that would for sure satisfy my needs for the moment.

            • Old news. The same exact specs were posted here a long time ago. But, the only specs that matters is the feature sets. If it has no Render Nude Feature, I may very well stick with my G400.

                  • actually matrox does not have to realease a chip with killer specs.
                    kyro proofed that tile based rendering is enough to kick a gf2's butt without T&L and without incredible high clock rates.
                    so if matrox released a reasonable priced card with T&L and tile based rendering i would be sound as a pound
                    if they added a RSN (not quite sure what that is yet, but i think i can imagine ) and some dx8 features thats fine with me.
                    maybe they delayed the g450 eTV because they are gonna realease an AIW g800/g500/condor II/etc...
                    i dont even want a gf3 killer, because i probably wont be able to afford it
