G550 faster in 3D than G400-MAX ???

Yeah, and this seems to indicate that it's only up to par with the MAX, why should he change it otherwise?
I just fail to see where there's much room for speculation, when the question was "faster than G400 or G400Max?" and the answer is a clear "G400".

They will help, but the chip is hindered by it's memory bandwidth, which cannot be alleviated without raising the clock speed, or redeveloping it into a 128bit DDR/G800 version.

A dual-chip solution will help the 3D obviously, but will still be inefficient without a bandwidth increase per chip. The G450 was bandwidth limited, so having a faster rendering won't really help without a memory boost. Hmm, I guess they could be using fast memory, but then OEMs won't be happy at the cost, unless they go back to their LE/Standard version naming system, rather than the Standard/MAX idea.

I believe that at most it'll have about the same performance as a Gf2 mx since the specs between both cards are about the same as far as potential fill rate is concerned(pixel pipelines,texturing units,bandwith).


So i believe that the G550 will probably be faster than a G400 max in low resolutions(640*480/800*600) where it can take advantage of it's extra texturing units and bandwith limtations are much less of a concern at those settings.

it all depends on the clock rates and how far you can overclock the g550 without having to add active cooling i guess, i for one dont think that the performance gain will be enough for me to replace my good ol' max

I think that even when overclocked,a G550 won't significantly outrun A G400max max,especially if the G400max has also been overclocked,at least at higher resolutions.

I think that it's only in low resolution situations where A G550 may come out on top,but in these days where users can buy ghz cpu's for peanuts,who would want to play their games at low resolutions anyways???.

So it looks like it may be still another year(if not more) until we see a gamers card from matrox and even then,it remains to see what will their performance target be,because you just know that no matter how impressive a Gforce3 is right now(in 3d performance).nvidia might have something twice as fast(or more)by the end of next year.

Same goes for ATI with the radion 2 as well as the kyro 3 that will be due out before the end of the year.
