it crashed, soon after i wrote the last msg, the computer crashed

i'm surprized i've been able to load into windows both times now, without problems (still using G400 for now)

ummmm what about a reciept? i'm not sure i have one, i think i still have the original invoice for the whole system, will that do?

Start a thread at Matrox's forums about your problem.
You won't need an invoice, all G400 cards are still under warranty.
If they can't help you in Matrox's forums, they will ask you to contact their RMA dept, and reference your thread in their forums, and RMA the card.

Say, did you buy your borb before or after you got the Athlon ?
Might be the orb, my Hercules Kyro II has an orb on and it's quite hot even when running with the case opened. I have a system cooler next to the card to help a bit.

no i got the orb awhile ago, and i run pretty cool, got a high powered fan on the front bringing in lots of cool air.

Download the MTSU and force your G400 to use 1X and see if it helps you out.

Can you try the card in another system to determine if it's really the G400's fault ?

Yep, that's my fault, not yours.

well seems pretty good so far.
can minimize again and ran 3dmark2000 once and got 3021, not bad for no major tweaking

i'm going out now, and i'll mess around with the card some more and see what happens.

thanks alot, cya in a bit.

3021, not bad, still a little slow for a 1.4 GHz Athlon.
Was getting close to 3600 with my vanilla @150/200 on a P3 650@900.

yeah nothing is o/ced yet Admiral.
                            just a 1gig tbird and a default G400 32meg.

when it's all tweaked up it should be a 1.4+ (150x9.5) and the G400 will be the same as yours 150/200. i also had all my usual programs open, i usually turn them off when i run any benchmark.

Are you using an Asus A7V133 motherboard? I have the same problem sometimes, although it fixes itself after a complete shutdown (have to pull the powercable out of the powersupply).

I have heard others having the same problem, and they say it happened after they flashed their motherboard's bios...

If the card runs O.K. in AGP 1x mode, there is most likely a better (?) solution than that.

You didn't mention your OS (some flavour of Windows obviously) and mobo chipset / manufacturer yet.

Windows 2000 pre-SP2 e.g. requires a hotfix to make a number of cards (including G400s) run stable at all.

For each and every Windows version you absolutely must install the appropriate drivers for your motherbord (ideally, prior to installing any other drivers). Don't use the drivers that came with your board, but go directly to the chipset (not mobo!) manufacturer's web site and download the latest AGP, IDE and USB drivers plus inf-update. In case you are using a VIA based board, the 4-in-1 driver package 4.32 is the current release. AMD has drivers for theire chipsets and so has ALI (na rash Intel talks, please, even the latest Intel chipsets do need at least additional IDE drivers...).

After installing an up-to-date chipset driver (especially the AGP driver) you should be able to go back to AGP 2x (or 4x, whatever your G400 supports) mode without a glinch.

And while this won't do much good in any real world application, your 3Dmark scores will go up ... :P
