  • Need quick help on identifying old PCI card

I'm having trouble identifying this old Matrox PCI video card, and I need some quick help before I go home to school, which could be as soon as mid-tomorrow.

The card has the following information on it:

    Main MGA chip:
    Matrox MGA
    Power Graphics
    IS-STORM R2
9611EU025 (zero in front of the 25)

    Main Texas Instruments Chip:
    VIDEO
    TVP3026
    -175PCE
    539979 9605BN

    Same side on PCB:
Has yellow inventory sticker that says:
    CAF90715
    2826-A

Same side under yellow sticker is:
YRIGHT 1995 576-05 REV. B (obviously, the sticker is covering up part of COPYRIGHT)

Back side of video card has a few stickers on it:

    1st Sticker:
    HP P/N: 5063-8777
    REORDER P/N: 5063-8798

    2nd Sticker:
    MGA-MIL/2/HP3 500
    MFG P/N: 79075010170
    S/N: CAF90715
    MADE IN USA

The one time I've seen the card info before the computer started posting, I think I saw that it had BIOS VER. 1.9 on it, but I can't be sure.

I'm having trouble with it because many times if I reset the computer, it will not come up with a video image (also, I can here it not POSTing) and it will either sit and beep at me (single, evenly spaced beeps), or do nothing. Other times it will boot straight away though.

I just ordered the video card, so I'm hoping its not that.

Is there some sort of utility that will identify the video card from DOS?

    Thanks!

      Thanks for the reply Kruzinp!

I ordered the card from the following website:
      Ordering link

They say in this link that the card is a Millenium 2 (or, its at least implied).

      Isn't there a big difference between a original and a 2 Millenium?

Just for kicks, I downloaded the setup351 BIOS updater and used PCISPY.exe to see what it said. The revelvant info was MGA/VGA, Matrox Millenium. If it was a Millenium II, would it have said MGA/VGA, Matrox Millenium II. ?

Also, can I use the setup351.exe pack to update the BIOS on this card?

      Thanks again!!!

Yes, setup351 will take care of that card.
And yes, there is a difference between a Millennium and Millennium II. Millennium II was a faster, more RAM, later model.
The old Millennium is still a good 2D card, but it is not going to run any 3D games.
That page you bought it from is kind of confusing, if you are not familiar with the products, but they are advertising and selling the original Millennium.

Thanks for all the help Kruzin!

I flashed to the latest BIOS; the one on there was 1.9, now it's 3.0.

Found that I had to flip a dip switch on the video card to allow the BIOS to be programmed, then flipped it back again after the flash was done (shutoff the computer of course).

Hope this solves the beeping wierdness!

          Thanks again!
