I take no issue with the want to see more facts. In fact I expected it.

What I take issue with is that Ant and I are being accused of having other motives in the information I posted. This is completely wrong in every way.

We will all see how credible this is in the next coming month or so.

I see the accusations as nothing more than some ATI/nVidia fans worried that their hardware will become outdated should this card become fact. I didn't see them making the same claims when GF2/3/4 specs were being thrown around... (and some of those claims did turn out to be far off)

The news about Parhelia is heartening to say the least. I knew Matrox was capable...just wonder where they got the motivation

That and having no other choice really...the days of simply having great 2d are behind us and matrox has finally realised it...


Now the main question is....Are the cards(all their possible versions) good enough to compete against both what Nvidia and ATI have in store within the next 6 months and will the drivers be up to par right from it's release is what i want to see...


Because if matrox follows their usual patern and actually anounce their new cards within the next 2 months,pretty much everyone here knows that the cards themselves won't be available for another 2~3 months after,plenty of time to see what their competitors have planned....


I know that there are plenty of people here who'll buy the card no matter what as long as it offeres somewhere between GF3~Radion8500~GF4 level of performance,but will that be enough to convince others when most likely ATI and Nvidia will have faster cards still,especially when by vigilant's own admission,these cards will cost more than their direct competition will within that timeframe?....


I'm trying not be too skeptical here,but essentially seing matrox coming out of nowhere with cards that will beat anything out there right now and even cards that won't be released for another 6 months by both Nvidia and ATI is a little hard to believe....

Its called innovation superfly. People can develop ground-breaking technologies that leap-frog the existing state-of-the-art. The competition will probably then leverage those innovations themselves to catch up if patents don't adequately protect the innovator.

I'm all for innovation,but let's face it folks,everything that's desingned is essentially based on previous tech,on what worked well and not so well,and that applies to pretty much everything,not just video cards...


Except in matrox's case,there obviously wasn't any previous product(that was actually released) on which such revolutionary technology would be possible and running software simulations of any given desing will only help to point....just ask the bitboys.


So seeing any given company anounce a breakthrough product which it's main claim to fame(3d performance and features) is precisely the opposite of their "target" market and even claim to beat other companies at their own game as well is a little hard to believe...

Except for big innovations. The PPro core, the PowerPC chips, the Voodoo card. And somebody over at Ars said it: Matrox does completely new designs every few years: The millenium, the G series, parhelia(I think I'm supposed to say maybe here).

I don't have a problem with the innovation part per se....It woudn't surprise me at all if Matrox released a part that's 3~4 times faster than a G400 max in 3d speed/features which would already be a pretty good leap for them,considering they haven't really participated in the consumer 3d market for the past 2+ years...I'm sure that if they released a gf3 level card right now with at least some DX9 features added for good mesure,pretty much every hard core matrox fan would buy in a heartbeat,no questions asked....


Now making claims that the card will be ultimate card for both 2d and 3d speed/features at the time of release,after a 2+ years,even going up and beating a GF4 and potentially(depending on it's release date)both Nvidia's next generation part(nv30) as well as ATI's awsome R300 based card(according to leaked specs),is quite a boast,don't you think....And it's one that until i see it with my own eyes,not putting too much stock into... .

It's like that famous quote "show me the money"...
