DGhost, think about it, if a game or a 3D app is poorly coded and does not conform to quality standards (and let's face it, this applies to nearly all games) then it is Matrox's right not to run it? How about compatibility? Is that too much to ask from a modern computer component?
yes, it is. because if i am writing OpenGL code (barring any specific vendor extensions) i should be able to get it to run on *any* machine out there, the SGI Visual Workstations of yesteryear, the Intergraph workstations of yesteryear, a 3dfx video card, an NVidia card, a Matrox card, etc. it is the job of the developer to test and support their product with other vendors products. if they are gonna write a piece of software that will only run on NVidia video cards because of some quirk in NVidia's OpenGL drivers, they better damn well publish that sort of info about their product.

if matrox were to support every poorly written application out on the market, their 3d drivers would be total shit because of the number of exceptions to the rules that would have to be implemented.

there is a reason their are standards. there is a reason there are design guidelines and specs and review boards. its to keep the number of special exceptions down. otherwise you wind up with shit like VIA and their broken PCI implementation,

it sucks because the only companies that really cared about keeping to standards were in the workstation/server market. and most of those companies are either out of business or have switched to cheaper implementations. most consumer level system integraters and hardware manufacturers really do not care about sticking with standards...
