The bald guy in a designer chair was pretty damned lame, I agree.. but that wasn't the problem, it was a symptom of the problem. The problem is management that doesn't give a damn, or can't think straight, or both. The most important point in this thread is in VigilAnts original post here:

Re-investment in RD is almost NIL.. if you look at anand's review of inside NVidia.. they day it was released on theweb.. matrox's asic, and HW eng teams unanimously agreed... company is finshed.. they need to invest close to 500million to have the same setup.. if they did invest in that equipment then. parhelia would have been released on time.. which was about 2 years ago.. it's not liek we didn't try.. we asked for and FIB machine repeatedly starting about 4 years ago...

No more need be said. If this is true, it's just over. It's too bad. What I would like to know is what element of good sense did Matrox's management have back in 1995 that they do NOT have now? Anyone care to field that question in a straightforward manner?

man... the parhelia would have been released two years ago... that would have been something to see... they would have gotten major points in the 3d market...

Now with Parhelia there's this guy sitting in designer chair. IMO men still buy more hardware based on visiting sites and reading computer mags so it would be good to center this campaign arround babe as well.

3-Three babes*..with that 3D puffy paper

*Babes refers to women consisting of 98% silicone wearing no more than 2 bandaids, and a leaf

Me either...M doesn't seem to like advertizing in the Americas.
But I have seen some of the European ads....and for some reason, either the sexy models are all midgets, or the cards are double their real size....

smart move from marketing..."let's ignore the world's biggest electronics market"... Obviously Europe is so much simpler with it's multiple languages/cultures. A breeze to sell and support products there....Americas? Bah, they only had to sell it in english (yes, they CAN ignore Québec and the rest of the Americas ) and sell 500.000 units (anything will sell 500.000 in the states, even the Atari Lynx ) -but you need a little ad campaign too...

they should consider what ATi did with its Radeon VE chip (a.k.a. Radeon 7000 -a subpar part supposed to be resold only in Asia by another company, without the ATi brand name associated...), i.e. dump the P128 on the Asian market at discount price -even at a loss, in order to reduce inventory. Skip the AGP8x version and launch the P-II.

They messed up the company since a few years, they'll be in need of cash if they don't want to close it down. Inventory is cash looking at you, not working for you. Selling cards brings cash as well (hint to marketing ).

Unless they want to not loose money on the P project, I don't see how they will turn the graphics company around (they might well loose money on it if they try to sell an obsolete product in a few months...).

They should probably sell some IP as well (notably the integrated chipset stuff -let's say to ECS or the new low-end Asus company, or intel, or etc).

Reducing marketing is also a better move than firing the engineers. You can't SELL a product if you don't HAVE a product.

As for firing the CEO, if the owner is an ass there's nothing you can do about it short of shooting ppl

i've scanned two adverts from the past months, the first from 07/2002 the other from 09/2002. there is also another one with the same girl, in a white bikini, holding up an oversized parhelia but i think that magazine already went to the bin. i'll see if i can find it.
