Yes and people needing that kind of product and willing to spend that amount of problem probably know about this problem through other users and/or the Internet, IMO there’s no way for Matrox to dodge the problem if they ever want to see the Parhelia sales numbers go up.

I agree with a lot of the earlier comments, I mean I would have also preferred if matrox has prosponed the Parhelia and made a much better product with banding etc. Though perhaps money was the issue Who knows

The other problem is that their G550 is retailing for quite a low price. They needed a more expensive one, as you don't make much money in the low-end. Now they need a mid-end part...where the real money is made....

Mid-end part would be great, a Parhelia 8x speed with only one monitor output and 64mb of RAM would work great. Not everyone can afford three monitors. If they were going to make a cheaper alternative that would be the way to go. Right now though they need to somehow get rid of their current stock before they release a new product, which is going to REALLY be the tricky part.

Matrox midline singlehead would never go. It would have to be at least dualhead....

                Completely agree!!!!

The main thing that got me to go Parhelia was the far better multimonitor support on it than my Radeon 8500. The poorer 2D did detract from the ATI, but the multimonitor support pushed it over the edge...

That said, is there much for Matrox to save going dual-head-64mb?
I mean the card is designed 3 head done by a spliter, and these days half the ram aint gonna save them much either.

Why should I pay extra for dual-head while it's totally useless for me? And what is the reason that Parhelia can't be a single-head solution?? There are surely people who won't buy it if it's not dual-head. But there could be even more people who won't buy it if it's not single-head. Let the market guide the products, not vise versa, please!

What I'm saying is was designed 3 head. They aren't going to SAVE much money by not including the third head splitter. The cost is already in the chip, board, design. A 64mb version may be released but with the cost of ram, it wouldn't be worth it really. What is the current P will become their middle market card once an improved one comes along. If you just want dual-head buy a 550. If you want better 3D buy a P, or wait for its price to come down.
"Why should I pay extra for dual-head while it's totally useless for me?"
No one told you to buy a dual-head card. But look around, who even makes single head card anymore. Why, because there isn't much more cost involved now. So if you want single head just DON'T plug the other one in!

Look at what the price increase to put an extra 128MB of that RAM on though. Anyone have an idea of how much extra it costs Matrox for that? Presumably less than the extra they charge to consumers...

well...they could sell all the defective chips for one...as you don't have the banding problem with DH only...

they probably wouldn' t make that much money on them, but it sure as hell beats writing them off (which costs tons of money)because nobody will buy them... (they could put 64MB SDRAM instead of 128MB DDR, if technically feasible)

they could then introduced a fixed P, hopefully on a smaller process so they could have a faster and cheaper part (fixed would be enough though...), at the "usual" 399 $USD.

but we're not even getting the "we're working on it" message...

they should give for free all the "banding enhanced" parhelias to the 3rd world. That way Matrox could possibly save some taxes and they would have done one of the most huge marketing campaigns in computer history. Without forgetting that those people could become MURCers!
