Please read what Wombat said. A video signal is in overly simplified terms, a high frequency alternating current and as such is affected by the resistance, capacitance and inductance of the wires. One of the things known to affect signal strength is impedance matching. Impedance is a measure of the resistance capacitance and inductance of a conductor. The KVM switch will alter the impedance in some way. It may or may not be negligible in this case but until it is measured we have no way of telling.

"I agree the output quality on the Parhelia is amazing the guys
who designed, and validated the output stages.. are well.. genius's!!"

Are these the same genius's that missed the banding or did they catch the bandind but later on, someone wood reject their proposal

So, are you saying one person in particular is responsible for allowing this banding issue to escalate into what we have now?

Can't we have *one* thread without this issue coming up?

It's becoming kind of pathetic guys...

Well, since it only happens with the analog output... nevermind. Do high end monitors typicaly use "built in" cables, or do they just have a connector on the back? I'm kinda surprised that there isn't a market of "videophile" monitor cables, along the lines of the insane "audiophile" audio cable market.

Just CI hinted that a certain individual was responsible for banding. We knew that someone was doing lots of bad management, just didn't know there was a direct link.

And high-end monitors use BNC

Yes, I'm sure he went to the fab and personally made sure every board was banding. Please feel free to discuss your conspiracy theories in one of the 23983 other threads about banding.

I'm sure he was well aware of the situation and decided to ship the boards as is anyway. Please feel free to take your pompous, smart-ass attitude somewhere else. If discussions of banding don't belong in a topic dedicated to Matrox IQ, then where do they belong?

Uhmm, would you care to check the original poster of this thread? I'm not the one who should leave the discussion here. I think it was quite clear by my post I was discussing 2D image quality.

Did you ever try one of the original Radeons. The 2d on mine was superb. The main difference was the the G400 displayed a much heavier picture which i'm averse to.

Nope but I heard some say they were better. Put it this way at 2048 * 1536 the text is readable on my Gxxx but not on my 9700 Pro.

I suppose if your psycotic, and your monitor used BNC, you could use some semiflexible hardline coax. But I was thinking more along the lines of these cables. I like the part in the FAQ that says this:

Q. Why no gold plating?
A. We tried. It sounded awful.
