  • Parhelia & .Net 1.1

    Hi everyone,

with the new release of Microsoft's .Net version 1.1, there is a problem where our powerdesk will not load.

Clients are asked NOT to install .Net 1.1 until we release drivers that will function with .Net 1.1.

    Regards

    Thanks for the heads-up Haig.

According to Microsoft, the .NET 1.1 allows to specify the particular application to use 1.0 or 1.1 .NET APIs. However, it does not seem to work with Matrox's PowerDesk since Haig has said the current version is not compatible with .NET 1.1.

Once again I have been bitten by the "look Before I leap" bug. I just got my Parhelia and in my excitement I loaded it in, tried to install Powerdesk HF, and got the message that I needed MS's .NET software. So, off to MS I goe, download the 1.1 version and come up with exactly what this post is about. So I uninstalled the .NET software but now Powerdesk says I need the MS-BS again. What to do?

Anyone know where I can get the 1.0 version of the .NET nonsense?

                    Thanks

                      Check our cd

However, I don't think this would help becuase from what we are seeing in house, something in 1.1 has butchered a file somewhere in the system where even removing 1.1 and installing 1.0 hasn't helped.

BTW - we have a simple "Hello World" for .Net 1.0 where it won't even work on 1.1. Hence, it's looking like a MS compatability problem for now, but we're still investigating.

Thanks for the reply Haig. Unfortunatly for me the CD wasn't with the card. I am awaiting the US Mail service to deliver the "mistake" that occured on the other end.

By the by, I suppose the DVD software is on a seperate CD from the driver CD? Since this card came sans ANY software (Grrrr) I must resort to mucho download-o.

As an aside: I forgot just how good the 2D quality of Matrox was. After a Radeon 9000 replaced my G400 MAX I took many weeks convincing myself that the 2D quality was good enough. In all fairness to ATI, they had made significant improvements over the years in the 2D area. But after loading the drivers for the Parhelia, and staring at the screen for .068 ns I realized that the rest of the 2D videocard world has a ways to go to catch up with Matrox.

You can get the 1.0 re-distributable from here:

                          http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/downloads/list/netdevframework.asp

We have no dvd bundle so you really aren't missing much by not having the cd other than our reef demo and colorific.

Thanks for the link Haig. No DVD player? boo-hoo, woah is me. Oh wait, I will look through my Mystique 220, G200 Marvel, G400 Marvel, G400 MAX, G450 PCI (I know, I know, I gotta have a rummage sale soon) and see if any of the DVD software will load into the system with the Parhelia.

Oh the joy of being a pack-rat!

UPDATE: After un-installing 1.1 and installing 1.0 .NET I now have my Powerdesk HF!

FWIW, I installed .NET 1.1 before Haig posted his warning here. However, PowerDesk continues to run normally on my system, and has continued to load just fine after multiple reboots.

Haig: Is it possible that the problem you mentioned doesn't affect all .NET 1.1 installations, and that I am one of the lucky ones? Or should I be worried?
