    Or should I be worried?

Yes you should be worried if you decide to uninstall our drivers. It's at that point where you will be stuck. At least on our systems, that's what we're seeing.

Installing 1.1 when our pdesk is allready installed is fine as long as you don't remove our drivers.

After un-installing 1.1 and installing 1.0 .NET I now have my Powerdesk HF!

In house, we saw this success as well until we removed our drivers. At this point, we're not able to re-install them even if 1.1 is un-installed.

Just thought I would chime in here...

I'm a software engineer, and I've been developing in .NET for the past 6 months. Just this past weekend, I ported our application (which is still under development) over to .NET 1.1....to include Visual Studio .NET 2003 (which was just released as well).

To make a long story short, it worked flawlessly. I had not a single ounce of trouble in executing compiled 1.0 code against the 1.1 Framework, as well as recompiling the entire application against 1.1.

I would really like to know what happened, because by and large, 1.1 brings more features andf/or bug fixes than anything else.

If any of your software guys would like to correspond to an active .NET developer, they can get in touch with me...(It's not easy to mingle with .NET developers, given the relative youth of the framework).

        Ah. I understand now.

I misunderstood your original post because you used the word load to mean "to install [a program]". I assumed that you had meant load in the traditional sense, which is: "to read [a program] from disk in preparation for execution".

In my reply, I mentioned that I had already "loaded" PowerDesk several times since installing .NET, with no problems.

        Thanks for the clarification!

          Update:

on some of our systems, this is what we are seeing as success:

          1. Installed 1.1 .NET and rebooted
          2. Uninstalled 1.0 .NET and rebooted
          3. Installed 1.03.00.043 and rebooted
          4. Boot up with powerdesk saying "An Unexpected Error has occured"
          5. Re-installed 1.0 .NET and rebooted
          6. Powerdesk works fine.

Some other systems are still exhibiting the problems I previously mentioned.

            Hi Haig,

is that a typo or is there still an option to uninstall .NET 1.0 after you installed 1.1 over top of build 1.0 ?

            Cheers,

              Hi Mags,

when you install 1.1 on top of 1.0, both versions are in add/remove programs.

would it work if you uninstalled drivers+powerdek+NET 1.0x then installed NET 1.1 and drivers+powerdesk?

No. From what we are experiencing on the "successfull" systems, 1.0 has to be installed.

I would really like to know what happened, because by and large, 1.1 brings more features andf/or bug fixes than anything else.

On the "successfull" systems, they all have a clean install of 2k/XP without any other apps installed.

On the "failing" systems, they are packed with apps. The HelloWorld test app for 1.0 is also failing on these systems when only 1.1 is installed.

Apps are Office XP, all 2k/XP service packs, DX9, and a range of cad/dcc apps.

But there is no problem with having both frameworks installed is there? That is the whole idea of .net.

Then the developers can specify which framework must be used to run their program.

                      No problem at all.

True for developers but I personally don't see any reason why end users have to keep both versions.

Well to prevent things like this from happening. Microsoft even recommends users not to uninstall the older framework as long as all sp's are applied.
