Nothing personal (?!), I just thought that the Verax would be a good choice to, and I thought that YOU TO wanted one. Verax doesn't seem to have an efficient distribution plan at this point. I have ZERO intention of trying there distribution program in the US if it's this screwed up!

I really would like to make the best of the Parhelia, so I will try the Zalman and let all know asap. Stay tuned...

I am using Zalman, the older one ZM80A-HP. I add ram heatsink on each ram chip and add one big fan on the top like the new 80C. It's surely better than the original Maxtor fan.
If you use the VG02, you cannot add ram heatsink since the fan and the copper heatsink are too big that shade some ram chip.

I think you're not going to need ram sinks with the G02 since the big 80mm fan blows lots of air over them and they don't get that hot.

        @gangster:
I'm sorry to hear that you didn't have any success! Their distribution net is even in europe (is a german firm) rather lousy.

@X-Caliber: I just wrote a mail to a verax-dealer. Let's see how they react, maybe I get one myself...

Edit: when buying a zalman, be sure to get the latest (I think the c-version) - that's the only one that really fits. The first versions didn't cover the whole core.

The Zalman A & C version are the same size that cannot cover the whole gpu chip but C is capable with big fan on top.

            ah, Bavaria

            i bought mine from pcsilent.de, around €55.

But maybe you can try a Vantec cooler, i found now a shop, who sell them : http://www.jes-computer.de

They told me, that the Vantec coolers are in the middle of next week available in their webshop.

I checked into the Zalman size issue and it would seem that it still doesn't fit the Parhelia very well. Therefore, I won't bother.

Instead I'm going to find something I can make work like others have done.

                Hey Rakido,

Did you say that you have a G02 cooler? Does it block the adjacent PCI slot?

                  Thanks for the tips Rakido!

The icebergs seem to be rather noisy though (5500rpm?) whereas I would like to get rid of that high pitch.

Unfortunatly pc-silent charges 10E for sending the verax to me, so it's not cheaper than buying it here (hey I said south!!).

The verax height is about 25mm plus the clips' additional height, I fear this beast just needs space.

to quote myself "I have a Verax G03 on my 9800 in my Shuttle and it is dead silent, believe me"

No, it doesn't block the pci slot as the cooler is on the side of the chassis. I don't know if you're familiar with Shuttles, so here's a look on the motherboard. There you see the AGP slot on the bottom:

The only problem of the Verax is the height, i can't put the chassis back on (checked the dimensions too late ). But maybe it's a good idea to drill a little hole in the chassis, so the fan can blow fresh and cool air from outside onto the gfx-board.

The Vantec is listed with 24dB, that's not loud (and definitely way more silent then the original 9800 cooler). The Verax has 19dB.

I emailed Verax, and they confirmed that it WILL block the PCI slot. oh well.

I'm making my own. Have already experimented with several pieces and should have it done over the long weekend. It won't be a Verax but it's a better fan/heatsink combo than Matrox uses. 24db 6x2 fan.

Personally I don't like db numbers at all. Usually they're just marketing bable derived in hilarious conditions (if at all). Don't forget due to it's logarithmic nature of the db-scale +6db means double loudness.

I don't know what sort of problem this firm has, the verax distributor I emailed isn't responding either.

True, but if the coolers are compared in the same test setup, i can at least say that cooler a is louder than cooler b. It says nothing about the loudness in my own personal rig.

But everything is better than the original cooler in the card (in my case it was listed with 33dB)

And the relief when I watched the first video with this excellent tv-out...

Well, I did it successfully. A former Pentium Pro heatsink and a new 6x2 fan and a drill (for the heatsink, the card is un-modified except to remove the old hs/fan) and I have a much better cooler. The adjacent pci slot is usable, but just barely. A 6x1 fan would have been a better choice if I needed this slot.

Unfortunately, I don't have a digital camera to prove it...
