My personal opinion here: The Parhelia-based cards need better linux drivers before the G-Series can be sent on their way out...

I think G550 (perhaps a respin, with G800 parts enabled ) with a price cut down to GF2MX/TNT2M64 levels could bring in a fair bit of revenue, and maybe take back the lead in the 2D market from Nvidia.

        LOL@BsdGeek.

G800? Its supposed to be 2x speed of G400, and G550 is like G400 in terms of 3d speed

My personal opinion here: Matrox needs a DX9 part

Only a mini would think that matrox users might be normal.

                Pivot for P650/750?

The new drivers (card?) finally introduce the pivot feature I have been waiting for. I have 3 Dell pivotable LCDs on a P750 and need this feature intergrated into the drivers badly. NVidia and ATI have it, why not Matrox?
Soupy, please tell us it's coming for existing boards too!

From the info I have, I'm 99% sure that independent Portrait display support is on the way. That means you can have monitors 1 & 2 in landscape, 3 in portrait, and 4 in landscape, or any combination of portrait/landscape.

Not sure whether independent Pivot support is included in there, though.

edit: BTW, this is for QID-only. I don't have info on independent Portrait/Landscape for other products.

Thanks for the info. What's the difference between Portrait display support and Pivot then? I used the term pivot when I was thinking "ability to switch between landscape and portrait" on my P750. It sounds like it's coming to existing Pxxx boards as well then! Can't wait.

Pivot support is the ability to rotate the display and have the screen adjust to portrait mode on the fly. Portrait support is just the ability to have the screen adjust to a portrait mode, not necessarily when pivoting the monitor while it's running.

It's a pretty important feature and I'm glad we're serious about it.

Anyone know if the rotation to portrait mode is being done through hardware (using the graphics frambuffer to reorder the data), or an external software app (like Pivot Software)?

is there a difference in functionality?

I'm using external pivot program, and when I rotate the screen, the monitor resolution shows up as 1024x1280 instead of 1280x1024.
