That's not true. It's just that NDAs are still in effect.

Exactly correct. Some of us know what Fusion was meant to be, but we are still bound by our old NDAs.

And it has been stated more times than I can remember that G800 was renamed and released as G550.

I have a sneaking suspicion that they renamed it that because they castrated it by about a G250's worth from what it should have been..

          Pretty much.
They figured people would expect "G800" to be twice as fast as "G400", and when it became apparent that it wasn't going to be the card they planned, they renamed it.

Ditto on what Wombat & Kruzin said.

If i wasn't mistaken there was a discussion about the laptop/portable graphics project a while ago? I can't remember exactly, but I'm guessing that's what Fusion is. Fusion Dual is probably a laptop graphics capable of dual display (not sure if it's laptop lcd + 1 vga out or lcd + 2 vga out. But then again this was probably based on the g-series core; and back then most laptops have either/or outputs, either the lcd or the vga out, but not both at the same time. Laptop graphics that does both outputs at the same time was probably not the norm). F800 was probably Fusion 800, the portable version of the G800.

leech, the 8x interface on itself won't have any effect on performance, but the good thing about the 8x boards is that they used revised parhelia chips that have no hardware bugs the original chip had. Some also say that the card might run slightly faster stock or atleast capable of running faster than the 4x card "(because of the new core, not the agp 4x or 8x specs, the agp speed ratings are a bandwidth rating of the agp interconnect, not performance rating of the card). But i guess we can't be too sure until someone does a set of benchmarks.

or... another possibility is that Fusion could have been, perhaps, an integrated graphics core/chipset that was capable of doing Dual-Head, and was suitible for laptops...

and at the time, a lot of laptops could do both the LCD and VGA output at the same time (hell, pre-386 laptops could do that). how ever, they could not do Multimon/Dual-Head with them until a bit later. I do remember seeing some of them with the Mobile P3's, but not until later.

RE: Parhelia 8x. It doesn't really matter how fast it is, it is still a dog by current standards. and with the next gen graphics cards coming out, the current high end will just become cheaper. and considering that the newer GeForceFX cores have pretty damn decent MultiMon support (and are capable of doing a lot of the things Matrox does, without rebooting every time a setting is changed), the Parhelia 8x is too little too late.

All I know is that I came up with the orginal G800 name with the thread or post G800 to Maggi.

Well, I know the speed difference wouldn't really be about whether it was AGP 4x or AGP 8x, but my question was more if an 8x card would work properly in a 4x board (like I have) And actually I haven't really had many problems with my Parhelia anyhow (at least as far as banding goes, a fixed FAAx16 would be nice....)

The only appealing thing that nVidia's cards have for me at the moment would be their Linux driver support (which is the best) For anything else I'd rather go ATI, then Matrox... but since Matrox is the only one that does Surround Gaming right now... I'm pretty much stuck with the Parhelia until something else that is faster comes along AND supports linux (and this time I'm waiting 'til the linux drivers are considered great at least by the majority...)

Is it worth it to buy the 256 MB version for nearly twice as much as the 128 MB version? Here in Sweden the prices are $500 for the PH-A8X128 and $850 for the PH-A8X256.
