G400 MAX 1.5 volt problem...

    G400 MAX 1.5 volt problem...

    So... My G400 MAX card doesnt work with my ASUS P4C800-E Deluxe i875P moderboard.
    It wont boot at all. I have read about the R68 point. My matrox card says its
    G4+MMHDA32G. Does anyone know if it will work if I solder the R68 point?

      I tried the graphite pencil trick with my Max and my new ASUS P4C800-E Deluxe system but to no avail. I didn't want to screw up the card accidentally with a solder job since I still use the Max in my old Piii system. I just wanted to use the Max in the new computer until I got a modern graphics card (now have a BFG 6800 GT OC in there).

        Mechanical or wooden pencil? Soft or hard lead? You want a wooden, soft-lead pencil for highest carbon content. I couldn't get it to work with mechanical pencils - too much hardener.
        Gigabyte P35-DS3L with a Q6600, 2GB Kingston HyperX (after *3* bad pairs of Crucial Ballistix 1066), Galaxy 8800GT 512MB, SB X-Fi, some drives, and a Dell 2005fpw. Running WinXP.

          I used a wooden pencil (#2 I believe) and tried several times to lay down enough graphite but no luck. I wasn't going to spend too much time with it since I had a few VGA cards a friend gave me (had just tossed them out ) and it was only needed for a relatively short time. I didn't even have my LCD yet for the new system so I was using my secondary CRT monitor from my old system. All is good now since the Max is healthy and still running my dual-monitor setup in my trusty old Piii SCSI system (the one I'm using this very moment).

            If you want to do the trick but not solder, use a small piece of aluminum foil, roll it up, and tape it between the resistors. That's what I did over 2 years ago and my "volt modded" G400MAX boots and runs fine. Granted at times the tape doesn't hold AS tight over the months due to heat in the case and needs to be replaced, but the motherboard (in my case) just fails to work only during boot. After the system is running, it never stops or crashes due to the tape becoming undone. Heck its my most stable system by far. Good luck!
