Sean: I am getting like 50 to 51 FPS on average with all settings maxed out and screen at 1024x768x32bpp. This is with 3 bots duking it out in Turbine (where I saw the most slow down with these settings in the last version). Before this patch I was getting about 18 FPS in the above scenario.

    My system:
    P3-500, 256 MB RAM
    Matrox G400MAX with 5.30 Drivers
    Windows 98 and DirectX 7

      Hi Scytale,

If you don't have UTDEMO version 348 I would encourage that you get it. As noted by the Tournament programmers there were "performance improvements and cleanup of HUD, messaging, and console optimizations". The frame boost has a little more to do with just using 800x600 or turning off features. The recent optimizations seem to have brought this version a little more up to speed.

      Thanks,

      Sean

There is a new bug update at UT Bugs Page:

        Direct3D

Some Rage FURY users are having problems with game in D3D. We are looking into this.

        Input

Some versions of the Intellimouse Explorer drivers don't allow you to bind the middle mouse button if DirectInput is enabled. We believe this is a driver issue - other games exhibit the same behavior. You can work around it by using the Intellimouse Explorer software to map a key (eg shift) to the middle mouse button and bind that key in UT.

Okey Doke. I finally got home and went into the advanced menu options and saw that (surprise, surprise) the Use High Detail Textures was turned to false. I turned it on and the frames dropped back down to an average of around 20 FPS. This is still 10% better than it was before but not the massive jolt that I first thought I got when I applied the 348 patch. Ah well. Let's hope Matrox puts out the DirectX 7 compliant drivers soon with better texture management. I think I can live without high detail textures in death match...

            Hi Jerrohd,

The resolution of 800x600 with high graphics and detail textures seems to be the best setting. At 800x600 with detail textures, the graphics surpass 1024x768 without it checked. I did some tests: I am getting 50 fps in a Morpheous 4 bot deathmatch. I am getting 46 fps in an 8 bot match and 35 fps in a 16 bot match. The fps is acceptable.

Scytale: As I said in my last post to you "800x600 is not an respectable resolution in UT unless detail textures are enabled". In 800x600 I can verify that I am getting a 7fps increase compared to the UTDEMO version 338 with these settings.

These preferred settings are a keeper. :>

            Thanks,

            Sean

              Hi,

Let me also mention that the 7 fps increase that I am getting with the UTDEMO348 is with the HUD on. The benchmark that I am comparing it to using the UTDEMO version 338 was done with the HUD off. The UTDEMO 338 had an unfair advantage since the HUD was off and the UTDEMO 348 still came out on top.

              Thanks,

              Sean

Sean: Yeah, I should have mentioned that I drop down to 800x600 now with everything turned on. Either that or turn off texture details. I truly hope that things will improve with new drivers as time goes by.

                Thanks!
