Honestly, my G400 MAX crashes every time I load up a game. But before it crashes, it looks really great. When I finally fix whatever the problem is, I will not be unhappy with it in the slightest....

I am very happy I bought my G400 DH card. The 2D graphics are the best around. I am having problems running openGL (it hangs after about 2-3 minutes) but I can play all my games in software mode and I have been playing Half Life in Direct3D mode and I can't really tell the difference, it looks fabulous. I have to admit, I'd like to resolve my openGL issues but overall, I'm still really happy with my card (and I haven't even tried using the dual heads yet).
...but mamma, that's where the fun is.

          Andrei:
          Can't understand why Matrox doesn't give a s**t about it's OGL.
If Tim Sweeney (the coder of unreal engine) stoped giving a s**t about OpenGl a long time ago and he went D3D all the way, why should Matrox give a s**t optimizing the ICD for one of the louziest Opengl ports (only 2nd to Tribes)? Unreal works fine in D3D even if the D3D implementation in Unreal is not the best. They seem to got it kinda fixed in UT.

Unreal Return to Na Pali has a bad case of aliasing
erm... I can´t quite follow you on that. Aliasing? You mean jagged edges? Why? Can´t you run above 640x480 or you know many games that implement anti-aliasing?

UT missing textures or banding at some parts of the walls and the light sources
That´s a known problem (although I never have seen missing textures). I don´t know for sure, but I think it does the same on the other cards. Remember one thing: UT is a preview, a beta program, so you can´t expect it to be perfect or to run flawlessely in every hardware combo out there. As long as it worths what you have paid for it...

Welp, I'm gonna be one of the minority here.. but, I'm not sure buying the MAX was that great an idea. I don't really play UT or AvP alot, though both look OK on the card.

I think I'm in the predicament of having to wait to see how good the board is, since Tribes 2 is supposed to be optimized for OpenGL, and therefore good-2-go on the MAX. I had to revamp the system and add a V2 to play Tribes, which the MAX just couldn't help, or it couldn't help the MAX, whateva. No longer important to me.

But, I sure ain't crowing about how great the MAX is. let it prove itself to me, and we'll see. Hasn't happened just yet. But I do appreciate that the Matrox guys read the boards.

            Eh. I give it a thumbs-sideways.

Im still not sure about my G400 MAX, given its design it should beat the pants off my SLI Voodoo2 but it doesn't - Q2@800x is just shy of the SLI rig. Granted the picture quality stuffs the V2. I have a feeling that the MAX will end up going in my other machine and and I'll upgrade once more, although I really hope a new set of drivers will increase its speed substantially.

                Andrei:

Why do you insist on running Unreal in OpenGL; any Epic fan knows that Epic abandoned Unreal's OpenGL in favor of D3D. Why MUST it be OpenGL when D3D looks just as good, runs twice as fast, and is rock solid stable?

This is to answer a question raised by me eairler post

Id love to tell your where i could get a GeForce DDR, but i cant. Lets just say i have the hook-ups. It would have been a Refernce board. Those are the kind nVidia sends out for preview/review.

Nuno: Yes, I am aware of that command. Kuzin and severall others tried on severall ocations to help me out. And like I said, NOW if I run it, it looks amazing. But sadly, my clan moved on without me, and I cant get into it much anymore. Oh well. Still matrox's fault.
