  • Polygaps in Q3, any suggestions?

does any of you guys have polygaps (little white pixels between textures) in q3?
i only notice it in q3, it appears with every driver version... TGL is installed, res and detail settings don't matter either...
it's pretty annoying, running 800x600 with everything @max (textures too) and dyn. light, marks on walls and sky off, 55 fps...
    cel366@562, 128Mb ram 8ns cas2, G400Max 160/200...
    any suggestions would be nice...

I get the same thing in Rogue Spear on some of the maps. It worsens to the point of insanity when you overclock.

I think almost all games does it (for instance also Quake2 and DeltaForce2). I think some of the reason that it shows so much with the G400, is that the imagequality is so nice and crisp. When you use a Voodoo1-2-3 card, the textures are so blurred out that you don't notice them as much.

Quick thought : If the dots gets worse from OC'ing, would they disappear (or just get less frequent) if you "under-clocked" the card below it's default frequency ?

I've also noticed this effect in some games. But I have to say that not all games show it for me.

One of the most awesome games I have played yet (graphically, especially), is FreeSpace 2. I've got this game set up to run using its high-rez 1024x768x32bit mode, with all the graphical goodies turned up, and so far, not only is it smooth, I haven't been able to pick out any rendering problems of any kind whatsoever!

I sure wish all the game companies wrote them this well.

Isn't there an option to change texture placement on a tnt2 or geforce? i believe i have seen this once on firingsquad. maybe there is an option for the g400 also?

I found the same thing, but only when I overclocked.
The white dots started to show at 110% and by 120% it was snowing

This problem is NOT directly caused by overclocking, it is a bug in the TurboGL. I have come to this conclusion with tests on two different systems with default video clock speed: without the TurboGL, there were no white dots, but as soon as I installed the TurboGL, there they were. Overclocking my own vanilla G400 to 140mhz core STILL showed no white dots without the TurboGL. I get these SAME white dots in Half Life when using the TurboGL, but none with the regular ICD or D3D. The density of the dots does go up with overclocking, but only when you start to exceed the limits of your card. For example, I see no change in the occurance of white dots going from 126mhz core to 140, but the white dots are more common once I top 145mhz. Youll find that other artifacts start to appear as you push your card too hard as well.
