Yesterday I talked to the Matrox-support hotline in Germany. I asked if there exists a patch for my favourite racing game GPL. The answer was: Try to install it again with no hardware acceleration. It will work. Of course it did not work at all.
The G400 is a nice piece of hardware... why is Matrox unable to make a patch for GPL???
So... come on Matrox!
Question: Does someone know something about how I can see how much frames I have in Quake III. It seems that the game runs a little bit slow if I turn around very fast.
Please add my name to all those who think Matrox could do better in the "support for GPL fans" department!
I am still trying the G200 patch to work on my machine. I no longer get error messages when loading but I get bounced back to the desktop.
The GPL starts to load, I see a blue bar flash at the top of the screen that says "[something] Screen", then I see the opening GPL Screen and then get bumped back to the desktop.
I some tips from the Matrox FAQ pages and adjusted the AGP Aperture and disabled Video cache in the BIOS as recommended. Also checked for IRQ conflicts etc. and have all latest drivers.
Does anyone have any ideas??? I too think this game is THE best and I want to use my card! Any helpful suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
GPL is the ONLY game I play at the moment. I've got an old TNT board and I'd buy G400 IF it ran GPL at all.. I'm also waiting to be able to buy Logitech's FF wheel. My old T2 will do fine until a proper patch will appear from matrox or papyrus. Do we have programmers here? How about a shareware patch? :-)
Unfortunatly, this fix did not make it into today's beta release (which in reality are a week old), but it is now working in OpenGL with the latest internal betas. This fix WILL be in the next release of the 5.50 drivers.
Understand, I do not have this game, so I don't speak from personal experience, and all the Beta guys do not post here...but what I have heard are things like "it's fixed in OpenGL and running great...".
I asked when the fixed drivers where expected, and got "in the final release once all the bugs in these drivers are ironed out, so ask them to beta test them thoroughly"
In other words...Matrox is watching this forum (they have definatly seen this thread). If we all post (civil)bug reports here, Matrox will see them and get them fixed quicker. If all goes well, maybe we can see these final drivers in a couple of weeks...

Kruzin is very correct, the in house betas do, in fact, work VERY WELL with GPL in OpenGL with the ICD, so be patient and you will get your game back in hardware accelerated mode once again

Yeah, it's a pretty good game....very addictive once you get the hang of it.
The main point is that Matrox is listening, what a change from a year ago. Their ICD is getting pretty damn solid, and is now covering more than I would have expected just 8 months ago...Good things are happening right now, and we should take notice.
