    Paul: I like the IWILL. I got it because of the 133 bus. I bought this computer from ABS (best power for the dough) and they listed EVERY part and who made it - I suggest them if you're looking & not building yourself. The only problems I've had with it are the basic VIA problems (but absolutely NO USB problems). I would definately rate the MB as a winner. I don't remember which VIA drivers I'm using, but I intalled them sometime late Dec. or early Jan. so they're not the newest ones.

    I haven't been able to get anything but 5.41 drivers to work. I also can't get the TurboGL to work. To be fair, I haven't tried 5.52.

    Others: I'll continue to look for games on the Matrox server. I'm not very good, but I'm learning the maps and I'm getting cable internet in 2 weeks.

    You may not think I'm very good NOW, but I'm drinking milk...

              I've been interested in picking up UT but have been spending a lot of time trying to get Q3A performing properly. Even when I can connect during the optimal times (pings vary depending on time of day with my ISP) managing sub-200 ms pings on a USR modem, I still am at a severe disadvantage compared to LPBs. Will UT perform any better or is it not worth the bother?

                Runs okay on my 28.8 USR, but caused me plenty of headaches to get there.

                Open up your UnrealTournament.ini an scroll down to the following entry:
                Code:
                [IpDrv.TcpNetDriver]
                AllowDownloads=True
                ConnectionTimeout=15.0
                InitialConnectTimeout=500.0
                AckTimeout=5.0
                KeepAliveTime=5.2
                MaxClientRate=1000
                SimLatency=0
                RelevantTimeout=5.0
                SpawnPrioritySeconds=1.0
                ServerTravelPause=5.0
                NetServerMaxTickRate=20
                LanServerMaxTickRate=35
                Compare to your settings (defaul MaxClientRate=20000 ... 20KB/sec !!!) and keep up the alive times and timeouts.

                and don't be confused by the 'disconnect' symbol that will be present constantly ...

                I'll be over on MGI in a few so CU there ?

                Despite my nickname causing confusion, I am not female ...

                  I don't have UT Maggi. I run Q3A w/ a v.90 USR modem that I cripple to v.34+. My question is will UT run better with this modem than Q3A. If not, I won't bother picking up UT (at least until I get a faster link).

                    UT does a much better job at handling high ping, it"s actually playable when higher than 400!

                      Hay Paul, If what DuRaNgO[MU] says is true I owe you a BIG BIG apology!
                      The police haven't come for me!
                      So that must mean that the card you gave me was a G200, It's just you can't tell for all the fire and smoke marks all over the card.

                      Just another reason for WHY you should get a Matox video card!

                      Hope to see you all on the server!!!

                      P.S. I tried the milk thing last night and it didn't help. It must be me.

                      Oboy LOL

                        DOH!!!! Just wipe off the smoke and ash and you should see the Matrox G200 label.

                        I only overclocked it just a little bit...LOL

                          Thanks DuRaNgO. I just got off of yet another very disappointing session of Q3A and boy I'm frustrated. Turned prediction off for a change and it was ugly. Guess I'll give UT a try.

                            Xortam, I get an average ping of about 280 or so and it will go up to above 1000.
                            But overall even at the higher ping rate the game is playable. (not the 1000 does some weird things)

                            I did setup my ini file like Maggi has here and it seems to have helped, but its hard to know with the bad phone lines I have.

                            So get the disk and come join us, Guaranteed fun!!
