Another observation...Win2000's TCP/IP stack must be far better than Win9x's. I can't believe the difference between the two. On the MURC UT server under Win98se, I used to get ~350 ping, fluctuating as high as 700 or 800 at times, and that dang disconnect symbol was always coming on. Now with Win2000, I get a nice stable ~300 ping. A very nice and noticeable improvement.

And completeley off topic...what part of Haig's flack tossing cow does one aim at for a head shot?

Xortam: I had very good sucess with UT and my 56k modem (now on cable). I own both games and UT handled the 56 modem much better than Q3A. I could not play on the MGI game server with Q3A but UT was decent. The MGI game server sometimes pings wildly (even on cable) sometimes spiking to above 1000, only the MGI server though. Also I think UT is a much better game than Q3A, worth the purchase.

Thanks Haig for changing the game so that there are less relics. I'll go back to playing there again, so look out all. lol!

Hey beezer, nice to play with you again yesterday. I havn't seen you around much.

Thanks for all the responses regarding UT modem play. I will pick up UT the next time I'm at the store. Its hard to improve your skills when your fighting wild network fluctuations (bad ISP, bad). I'll do something about improving my access someday. Regarding the Q3A ping fluctuations on Matrox TS server ... its probably because all of you guys are hammering the network playing UT. Haig (or somebody) mentioned that its hosted on a dual processor box, but both games are still competing for the network. They might even be using only one NIC.
