G400 - TurboGL doesn't work

Kruzin: You might be right, but I did not yet receive a mail from Matrox and as long as these drivers help G400 owners I do not see any point in not releasing the drivers!

To all others: Many people did mention some stuff about the drivers bein infected and stuff like that but they are NOT! That's hoax! I did put together a pack of drivers for G400 users to enable them d/ling a <3MB file instead of a ~5MB file + they get some more than just the drivers, I've for now added a Glide wrapper which works fine with several 3Dfx only apps, reg patches for guys who want to try things and a very early version of my G400 FAQ (included in the newest release 1.21!) which (and that is what I hope) will grow by user input and communication on these forums here and the Matrox newsgroup!

Currently none of the drivers was really hacked so I did not modify the internal stuff right now and I suppose this is o.k. again, I did not yet receive a mail from Matrox!

Now who needs my driver pack? I'm not sure, I developed it to get a fast and stable working G400 Max which I think is a great graphic card with a lot of potential but some driver problems (sometimes, on different systems, in different situations). And because the driver combination and wrapper were working great for me I thought about releasing it. Soon several people who've had problems with the original 5.50.010 beta but wanted the speed and the fixes of the 5.50.010 D3D drivers (aka SS2 fix, DP1/2 fix, ...) mailed me to say how well the pack worked for them and I continued to post messages to people with problems be it D3D, 2D or OpenGL to try and solve them with the driver pack and other setting suggestions. It's just helping or the idea to help.

Of course there've been people who could not solve their problems with the driver pack due to other hardware conflicting with their card or else but this has to be found out and every new hint or solution is highly appreciated to appear in my G400 FAQ. You see, this is NOT a try to get any system infected, nor to destroy stuff or anything similar!

Finally, as mentioned in my readme.html (from the driver pack) I'm looking for beta testers (some kind of testers) who would like to test new additions and I'm all the time looking for new ideas for the driver pack which could help or at least make things easier. If you have any suggestions send them in!

yes... when I first got my g400 it was an upgrade from a voodoo2, so I expected a HUGE increased in speed...

as you guessed this was not the case. I knew when I bought my g400 that there were problems with the opengl drivers, but had I known that matrox were as unsupportive as they are I wouldn't have bought a g400.

after many sleepless nights of browsing, installing, restarting and reinstalling, I finally got q3 to run at a playable framerate, but there are still problems that are unsolved.

YES I have a ss7 motherboard, it's a VA503+ from fic, and yes I know that g400's haven't been working well with AMD chips, but matrox should acknowledge this problem and fix it...

the number of posts I've seen in this forum about the g400 tgl and q3 are ridiculous, and what does everyone say?

switch to the 5.3 drivers, they work.

Why is it that the earlier driver fixes a problem and it's successors don't keep this fix?

why is it that Matrox haven't planned to fix the SS7/g400 issue in the 5.5 beta?

coz they are crap.

I payed £140 for my g400 and i'm gonna use it till I need an upgrade, but I can tell you that when I do upgrade, I will NOT be buying another matrox product...

I'm sorry to hear that, I know many people have problems with Q3 but they are to a certain degree solvable. Be it with the turboGL drivers or the G400icd. One note, the G400icd (from 5.50.010) does seem to be unstable on AMD systems! Use the TurboGL drivers instead or switch back to the icd from 5.41 which is in my driver pack!

Concerning the ss7 probs, I did not encounter any problems, at least not with the current drivers I'm using. (5.50.010 + 5.41 (the driver pack from www.paraknowya.de))

On my main system (a Asus K7M + 700MHz) I was really surprised about the G400 Max' stability (except for the 5.50.010 icd) because several other cards did not work as flawless as the G400 Max does. This is real, it's not something out of my mind.

Everyone:
I noticed however, that Matrox are a bit slow with releasing drivers which is not nice because yes, they might have in house beta testers but do they really find every problem? It would be nice if they could release reference drivers or at least sent out drivers to some special people who can post in this forum to say bug xy was fixed or xy has changed or just that the new drivers are great!

Another important point would be some kind of detailed version history which shows us which problems exactly were fixed with each new release. This can't be too difficult to do.

O.K. I'm sorry I did not yet create a real page for the driver, so here the most important stuff (which you can read in the packs readme.html!

The driver features a combo of 5.50.010 and 5.41 whereas the 2D and D3D drivers are from 5.50.010 (they work great for me!

It also features a glide wrapper for some real glide gaming works good for me too (well, still testing this with incoming glide titles, mainly older stuff because new games use glide v3 if there is any glide support but the wrapper works good with things like Pandemonium 2, ... )

Next are the widely known reg patches which you might want to use!

Then there is a first version of my FAQ (small one currently) included since v1.21, I hope you like it and be sure to help to enlarge it, it's worth it and we can help others to solve their problems!

I think that's it for now, more goodies and stuff coming up in new releases! =)

Ok, the 5.41 and 5.50.010BETA drivers r not stable on my comp. Its weird, my screen shakes and weird white lines and stuff and decals. Anyone can help? And TurboGL still doesnt work, even with ur driver pack.

Can you explain what's about the AGP
miniport ? Is there something else
to install besides the Matrox drivers ?
What is it, BTW ?

More concretely, is it true that Win95a
does not support AGP ? I am bound to
this (office network) and find slow
performance with me G400 (on PIII/600)
with GLquake 1 (like 60fps, slower
as my PII/333 with Voodoo2).
Could this be the missing AGP support ?

ith you constantly forgetting to mention things I am surprised you can evn remeber how to do anything especially write drivers. Hmm, your specialty is many different interests. Master of none probably. GL works with Athlons just fine if your system is configured properly. It is more than likely motherboard issues than anything else. Sorry to rant as from the fact that are are capable of programming unlike me. I gave up on focusing schooling solely on that. You seem to be jumping to a lot of conclusions with little information.

nice post, thanks a lot! One thing before we get to the hard stuff, I never said I did hack or recode, write the drivers! I did not and I probably will never at least not for the G400.

Now back to what you said. Master of nothing is interesting, nobody is a master of anything! These are some who can do something very well and some who do not but there is no master of anything!

If this is what you wanted to say, yup you got it right, that's what I think! If not, I'm sorry but this fit's into what I think. Besides I did never say that I'm a master of anything nor did I say I can fix all problems it's just that I want to post possible soluitions which has often turned out to be the right thing to do because I could be of help. If you can take that, jealousy is tough I can understand that but please do not bother me too much! I did not ask for anyone to bash me!

Pky, dude, the tgl didn't work on my system with yer drivers either, tho q3 ran just as fast without... the only reason i don't stick to your drivers is that half life has a low fps using them...
