    nehalmistry,

I have a VooDoo3 3000, and playing HL, I got errors when switching maps--strange texture corruptions, I used to have an nVidia TNT2 (V770), and it would crash my system when I had EAX enabled and would exit to menu and move to a different server with the same map (all on HL/TFC). EVERY card maker has driver problems.

          Well...anyways....

Matrox should be able to reproduce this menu problem. I've tried pretty much everything. It's a pretty obvious problem.

          No help:
          Desktop resolution changing
          D3D/OGL in game
          different game rez's
          reinstall of WINDOWS!

Anyone try some different drivers? I've been using 5.52, does 5.41 do this? 5.30?

It would be great if this could be fixed somehow........

Had same main problem, I believe directX was a culprit, using 7.0 with PD5.52, everything is phat and happy now

Oh sorry Smiff ;p Thanks for the tip! It seems like most people getting this problem have a SB Live card of some sort. Is there anyone not using a SB Live! or Soundblaster card that is getting this problem?

My only problem is that when i leave to menu then go back to game i can't read text. Its all garbled.

                  I use PD5.52 no TGL and Dx7a...

There was a bug in the previous versions of HL that meant certain gfx cards would not quit back to the menu from OpenGL 640x480.

This was made into a much worse bug, whereby the HL engine appears to minimise or go otherwise screwy on a variety of hardware and resolutions when resuming a game by the latest patch... handy huh?

The game is still running, sometimes pressing esc and hitting resume from the menu lots of times will fix it.

The screwed up text thing can be fixed by messing around with the gl_texturemode settings, dunno why, just change them lots and the text fixes itself (I was experimenting on an ATI Rage pro to try and get some performance and found this out, it works on my G400 MAX too)

It happens to me in Win2000 using PD 5.03, but not in 98 using 5.52.

Also Win200 doesnt switch res when I enter the game first time, so I end up playing in a window all the time, any ideas??

I'm running an SB card, but its an ancient SB16 which I doubt is causing any probs at all.

Have had some problems , trying to hit tildale and hit esc by accident, go back and readouts of scores (like when u hit tab) and such are garbled and fuzzy, found that typing "vid_restart" or something sim works to clear up in most games.

                              Dyre,
I have not played HL in a while but last time I tried, switching the desktop to 16bits color did take care of the ''coming back from menu scramble mess''.
