I redeleted the files again and then reinstalled the ones for the ZIP off the MURC Clan page and everything seems to be working now.

Good news... My UT is working again, but now I see I need to d/l a lot more?

Off to d/l from Oboy's page...

Btw, does anyone know the difference between UTpatch420.exe and UTpatch420itsp.exe ?? I installed the latter.

Yes, it was a nice blast, although I came in late at the end and wondered where I was and where all the damn weapons were

So, how do you play the CTF-Hammer map?

You spawn in with the enforcer(pistol)and then switch to the air hammer. It's either #1 or 2 on your keyboard. Or you can just bind a key for the Air hammer in Options/Controls.

Oboy, could not get it to respawn with the Hammer only. The only way to do that would effect all maps.

There's one DM server I play often that automatically gives you the air hammer when you initially connect. But still respawns with the enforcer. Don't know if it's intentional or not.

The only way to get "only the hammer" is to use a Mutator. From what I have read and was told, it will change all the maps on the server.
Ill keep checking into it.

Hi guys. From experimentation (and then comparison), I can tell you that the TCowMeshSkins.int and TCowMeshSkins.utx that we get in the additional skins aren't the same as the ones in the Bonus Pack.

What this means is:
1) If I overwrite (or otherwise replace) the original Bonus Pack *.int and *.utx files with these new skins, I can connect to the MGI server, but not any other server using the Bonus Pack (skin Mismatch messages). If I DON'T overwrite them, the opposite occurs (skin Mismatch on the MGI server, but not elsewhere).

The cure is two-fold:
1) Install the skins, then re-run the Bonus Pack installation on each client machine (mine, for example). This restores the original TCowMeshSkins files, while leaving the other new skins files in place.
2) Repeat step one on the MGI server (so we get access to the new skins, as well as all the old Bonus Pack skins). This also allows us to connect to servers that only have the Bonus Pack, and not our newer skins.

Can you do this for us Haig?

(As an aside, if you've just installed the Bonus Pack, but not yet the new skins, just don't replace the existing TCowMeshSkins files when the Winzip or other installer asks you- that way you get the new skins without replacing the others).

Thanks all. Hopefully this will take care of our connection problems.

Actually, Ace, I did NOT install the new tcowmeshskins and still do not get any errors connecting to the MGI server as well as any of the other public servers I've tried.

However, I'm not sure if the new cow skins (tcowmeshskinsOzUnreal...) are visible on the MGI server -- I still look solid brown when I die.

I really don't know what to think of what your system is doing there, Beezer, but I can guarantee that these problems are because the MGI server is using the new TCowMeshSkins, where all other servers running the Bonus Pack (but not the newer skins we've got available) use the original TCowMeshSkins. Note that not all servers out there have the Bonus Pack, so there are lots of servers we can still get on. But if they don't have the Bonus Pack, we can't use the Skaarj Hybid, Naali, or Cow skins on them (green skin effect).

Because the versions of those TCowMeshSkins are different between the standard Bonus Pack and that available in that zip file, any time you have one version installed and try to connect to a server that has the other, you'll get those "TCowMeshSkins MisMatch, connect failed" types of errors. Try it again and see. Both sets should now be available separately on The Clan-Mu site (the ones in that new Cow skins pack, as well as a new zip made from the Bonus Pack files that I sent to Oboy).

If you install the ones in the Bonus Pack zip, you won't be able to connect to the MGI server, but you'll be able to connect to all other servers that make use of that pack just fine. Then, change the files back to the ones in the new Cow skins file, and repeat the experiment again. You'll see that you can once more get into the MGI server, but if you try a server that has the Bonus Pack, you'll get the same error you were getting with the MGI server and the Bonus Pack skins.

Thank Kindness for originally bringing this to my attention, as I just installed the latest skins from the Clan-Mu site this evening, and decided to experiment to check this out after talking to him. This is how I can say that the files are the problem.

But please, give what I mentioned above a try. If you need an address for a server other than the MGI server that is using the Bonus Pack, let me know. I'll have to look another up, but there are lots, so it'll be no trouble at all. I just want us all to be able to get into the MGI server fine, and still be able to play elsewhere too (given the ping probs with that server's connection right now).

L8r.

Thanx for loading that Rumiko model Haig. Ok to get the DinoCow and OZ skins to work you have to get the Modelfixes and unzip the .int and .u files in the UT/system dir. Then edit the unrealtournament.ini and add ServerPackages=cowfix and ServerPackages=nalifix. Now we can have the cow party on the hammer map. Haig could you paste or mail the [Engine.GameEngine] part of the servers Unrealtournament.ini file. I think we're missing some of the serverpackages that's why we're getting some green skins. I want to see Ace frag me in that Cat skin lol. Tomorrow I'll try the new cow skins with the 2 TCowMeshSkins files from the Bonus pack if they work then we should replace them and make everybody happy.
That's all for tonight.

Now I can't connect because of the TCows version thing.
I installed all the skins & mods off of the clan-mu site.
Then I re-installed the 4.2 patch and the bonus pack.
I still get the TCow version error.
Where do I go from here?
thanks

Jorden, to illustrate my point please try to go into 208.189.144.220. That is another server in my favorites. I am willing to bet good money that if you can get into Matrox, you won't be able get into the other one and the opposite will hold true as well. If you can get onto that other sserver you will not be able to connect to Matrox. Ace has nailed the problem (in a few different posts now)and it is something that Haig will have to fix on the server. I love the Matrox server, and it is the first one I check when I get on, but I have to have a place to play when Matrox is empty and none of my other favorites work when Matrox is working. Problems man!!!!

Basically, what those of us have to do for now that want to play on both the MGI server and on other servers (when it's not available or is too laggy) is to have copies of both sets of TCowMeshSkins handy somewhere else on our hard disks. When we want to play on the MGI server, we have to copy the TCowMeshSkins from the custom skins file to the textures and system directory, then load UT and connect to the MGI server.

If we then decide we want to play elsewhere (because of lag, or lack of bodies in the MGI server at the time), we have to shut down UT, copy the original TCowMeshSkins (the ones that were distributed in the Bonus Pack) to those same directories, restart UT, then connect to the other servers.

When you attempt to connect to the MGI server but don't have the custom version of the TCowMeshSkins in those directories, you WILL get the version mismatch, as well as connection failed. Similarly, if you do have those skins in those directories, you'll get the same problem on other servers that are using the Bonus Pack.

So until Haig or someone at Matrox restores the original Epic versions of the TCowMeshSkins files to the server's system and textures directories (from the Bonus Pack, sorry for being so redundant, but I want to be as clear as possible), those of us that don't play strictly on the MGI server are stuck swapping files whenever we move back and forth.

On a side, but related note, playing in single player mode, the rest of the cow skins seem to work fine with the original TCowMeshSkins installed, so there really is no reason to use the version of those files included in the custom cow skins pack. Even worse, according to that ReadReBonusPack.txt file, those TCowMeshSkins files are supposed to BE the original Epic versions, just for use in case someone got theirs corrupted while using the other skins! (Dunno how they got changed then, because they are not the same files that the ReadReBonusPack.txt claims them to be!)

L8r
