  • New Quake III Point Release

I'm not including ID's link, because it can be a really, really, really slow.

    From Graeme Devine's Plan:

"The Win32 1.25 point release is now out. It fixes and adds many new features to Quake 3 Arena.

    - global rankings support from www.globalrankings.com
    - new awards
    - new pure server support
    - new protocol 45
    - score plumes (these are cool)
    - headmodel/model/team_model/team_headmodel support (orbbs head on sarge is funny)
    - banning of weapons on servers
    - dropped sound fixes
    - new announcer sounds
    - new smoothed client support for modem users
    - MD4 skeletal model support
    - new encryption
    - new botlib version and area files
    - and much much more (hint: read the readme this time)

Because we've added so much I think we're going to call this a "Public Beta". We'll put up the Mac/Linux/OS X builds as they roll off the line."

This point release is reported to have problems with mods. It may also cause problems with running demos.

Thanks for the notice! The quake3arena readme file didn't mention modem client smoothing. I look forward to anything they do to improve modem play. I'm downloading it now and I'll give it a try. Probably won't be able to tell until next week because my ISP (ATT GlobalNet) sucks and evening/weekend on-line gaming is useless.

If you want to go back to Point Release 1.17, do this:

        Delete the pak4.pk3 file

        Reinstall Point Release 1.17

I haven't tested the mod problem, but the demos run again.

Just tried some on-line. Only 42 servers were found. Game play was quite odd ... lots of flashbacks. Others were complaining of the weird physics. I guess I'll have to wait until Monday to form a valid opinion.

This Point Relelaese must be a joke. No more timedemos ugly physiks and more stuff like that. Ra3 didn't run with 1.25.
But now were able to put klesk's head on anarki's shoulder what an effort!

Is everyone backing off of this update? Not too many servers out there. Can't run benchmarks with the old demos. Where are some new demos? Just tried playing and it was useless ... worst disconnects, freezes, and chop yet. Could be my rotten AT&T ISP still. Hard to tell what's going on with the network since apparently the lagometer isn't supported anymore. Anybody know what's up with that?

I'll download it and try it - and if this improves my modem play I'll let you know in big writing! And if it makes Q3 actually playable on the net for me you won't see me for a month !

The new point release works fine for me. However the air control in it really sucks now, its desperately needs air acceleration ala quakeworld.
However it does have the nice headmodel feature with which you can do stuff like:

                    pr

                    8-)
Dig around in the dir those images are in for a few more.
