Basically, when creating a LAN game, HL then switches to the Loading screen as it sorts out all the network bits and loads the map.

During that process, the screen flickers slightly, and in the top left of the screen I get the main HL/TFC menu appear. This 'screen' stays on top of everything else and basically covers about 1/2 the screen.

The only way to get rid of it is to hit Esc to get back into the menu, and then resume the game.

After that everything is fine. Map changes don't cause the problem to reappear.

I've recently re-installed HL, the patch to 1.1.0.1, and now the latest patch, so I don't think it's to do with the game being screwy.

As I mentioned, I've recently changed video cards, so it isn't a driver thing either.

I can only assume that there is some kind of problem between the HL console and win2k for this to happen.

It isn't a show stopping problem by any means and it takes 5 seconds to fix. It'd just be nice if it didn't do it.

I run win2k as well, and have never seen that particular problem.

Do you happen to be running a VIA chipset? If so microsoft has claimed that VIA AGP for win2000 is not correctly implemented. Go to this link to download a Hotfix
        http://support.microsoft.com/support.../Q261/6/06.asp

It does not talk about performance. Only having the system hang when using VIA AGP.

Intel 815E Mobo? Don't they have the graphics and soundcard included on the mobo? And even if you put a graphics card in your AGP slot, and finally disable the videocard from the BIOS, doesn't the said motherboard still take up an x-amount of your RAM to give to the videocard?

I like the colours on the mobo, though. Purple for keyboard, green for mouse, blue for monitor... Though I wonder why they put a light on the mobo. Plug in the power and the green led comes on... Why?

Well I've just had a very pleasant little conversation with Haig and Yiota over at the official Matrox site, and after examining my system .nfo and going over everything, Yiota had something rather interesting to say:

The new drivers should be coming out, soon...
/me takes on a thick French accent...

Rags, I wave my private parts in your general direction!

And anyways, I read that thread, and it is obvious that you were only looking to hear what you wanted to hear. They gave you several great suggestions, but didn't listen (big surprise there). They are also stumped, it appears, as to how your system loses half it's framerate. If this was a known issue, then they would have simply told you to wait for the newer drivers to come, but they didn't. There is something wrong with your particular setup, but are too stuborn to realize it. Oh well, happy prozac.

BTW, you are an ugly girl at that

                            Eh?

First, I tried or had already tried everything that everyone suggested, everyhere, always, several times.

Second, I'm not a girl (what pictures are you looking at?! I've got long hair but jesus you gotta be really out of it to think that... But there aren't any pics of me on the Net anyway so - WTF?! )

Oh wait, I get it... you're being funny.

Nope. You didn't try everything. Even when a Matrox Tech Support rep is helping you. You dismis stuff that doesn't fit into your view of how things should be. I know that you could hack this problem, but you really need to quit being so stuborn. I have been willing to help you out, but it's really tough to do that when the other person doesn't give much effort in what is suggested. I am not being mean here, I am just stating it as I see it.

The comment about the girl was referring to you waving your genitalia towards me.

BTW, get a breast enlargement, it will help take away from the rest

Notice the winking smiley, I am being light here, not flaming

I don't really think the new drivers will help either Rags, but you know I don't care 'cos tomorrow I'll have a GeString and this card will be a bad dream.

Heh, I'll send you a postcard, it will go something like this:

"Dear Rags… Enjoying Counter-Strike very much now and the G400 makes a lovely paperweight. Sorry to hear Matrox still haven’t got their drivers fixed. Wvu, bye!”
