  • Ok ive got OpenGl working in BG2 but .....

its a hell of a lot slower than software!
The main thing i am trying to run in opengl for is to see if it improves the spell effects, but these are a lot slower when using opengl then when just using software with 3d anims turned on. The magic missile effect seems to slow everything down and twice the game crashed when using it in the middle of a battle. Also the effects kind of look like they are in 256 colour (gas clouds etc especially) But if i change to software everything runs faster and looks better, apart from the fades and fog of war of course

The only way i got Opengl to run in the first place was from a very helpful suggestion from a poster on this forum so i thought i'd post here first. Thanks for any help anyone can give me.

    224 mb ram
g400 max 6.21 drivers, opengl set to "optimize for accuracy" in mtsutil
    win98
bg2 latest ver with 32 bit colour and textures

The 6.23 just came out, and since the only difference in version is 0.02, I'd say they fixed a few minor problems. But there is no readme saying what was fixed, so I don't know. But it's worth a shot, ne?

        TiG:

        1. Make sure you DIDN'T follow the instructions in the BG2 readme. DO NOT enable the backwards compatibility mode.

        2. Run a search (in this forum) for BG2 and/or Baldur, as these issues have already been discussed. It's almost certainly not a driver issue, but a setting issue.

Yeah, make sure that 'backwards compatible 3d' setting in the baldur.ini file is set to 0.

Also download the matrox tweak utility, and on the OpenGL page, set to 'optimise for accuracy'.
One final thing.. in the baldur.ini file, there is an entry for 'refresh rate' set that to the approriate refresh rate that you run the game in. It can help with texture problems.
